Rice urges immediate enforcement of UN sanctions against Iran

Rice urges immediate enforcement of UN sanctions against Iran

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said that Iran should "accept its international obligations" and suspend its nuclear activities.

In a statement issued after the UN passed a resolution penalizing Iran for its nuclear enrichment program. Rice also called the resolution a "strong signal to the government of Iran."

Stressing the need of immediate enforcement of UN sanctions against Iran, she said that the resolution orders all countries to ban the supply of specified materials and technology that could contribute to Iran's nuclear and missile programs.

It also imposes an asset freeze on key companies and individuals in the country's nuclear and missile programs named on a UN list.

2. Or we will take it upon ourselves
To enforce the Security Council resolution as we see fit, along with much self-righteous posing while we kill people in a small country.

6. Rice presumes Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons
<snip>

"We call on all countries to take immediate action to implement their obligations under this resolution," Rice said in a statement.

The top US diplomat said the Security Council resolution was a response "to the threat presented by Iran's pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability."

"Resolution 1737, which is the product of many months of hard work by the United States and other members of the council, places Iran among the small number of countries facing international condemnation through Chapter VII Security Council sanctions," Rice said.

"This resolution is a strong signal to the government of Iran that it should accept its international obligations, suspend its sensitive nuclear activities and accept the negotiations path that the US and its Security Council partners offered six months ago."

9. Do the sanctions affect the start up and operation of the Iranian nuclear plant?
I have to admit though, Condi is getting to be a real embarassment. I can stand some 'spin' from time to time but this over the top hype is a bit ridiculous.

It make apparent to me how desperate Bushco is for a win in the area of foreign policy.

14. No, Russia had the Bushehr nuclear plant placed outside the sanctions.
And the parent company of three of the companies affected by sanctions was omitted at the last minute at the request of Russia. So the sanctions are basically useless, toothless, meaningless.
