Lampson leaves hospital, says he is 'feeling great'

U.S. Rep.-elect Nick Lampson was discharged from the hospital Sunday morning, two days after undergoing an angioplasty procedure to open a blocked vessel in his heart.

"I am feeling great and looking forward to a restful Christmas with my family," Lampson, D-Stafford, said in a statement.

Cardiologist Ghyath Samman performed the angioplasty on Friday at St. John's Hospital in Nassau Bay, inflating a balloon in a blood vessel to clear the blockage. He had gone to the hospital a day earlier after complaining of illness at a friend's party.

Lampson is expected to recover fully, though Samman suggested he follow a low-cholesterol diet.
