Police today arrested an Italian security expert who met former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko the day he fell ill from poisoning.

Mario Scaramella was arrested in Naples, where he landed on his way back from London, Italian news agencies reported.

Rome prosecutors have been investigating Scaramella for violating secrets of his office and possible arms trafficking.

Scaramella met Litvinenko at a London sushi bar on November 1, the day the former spy fell ill.

Exile's contact in hiding after 'being made a scapegoat'

Mario Scaramella, the self-described “security consultant” who was with Alexander Litvinenko when he was allegedly poisoned in a sushi bar in London, is a shadowy figure with possible links to both Italian and Russian Intelligence. Yesterday he was reported to be in hiding, fearing for his life.

A close friend of Mr Scaramella, who did not want to give his name, said yesterday: “Mario is worried that the Russians and the Chechens are after him. He has obviously been made some sort of scapegoat. Mario is very well connected and has a lot of sources within the intelligence agencies but he did not have any involvement in the attempt on Mr Litvinenko’s life.

“Mario was very good at finding and gathering information in Russia and has very good connections there. The last time I spoke to him he felt very worried and threatened. He was very concerned because he feels he has been set up.

“Mario was the last man to see Litvinenko before the attempt on his life so there is going to be some suggestion that he was involved, but he is adamant he had nothing to do with it.”

4. If you look at the way this was done...

Smells like a Bush Jr half-assed throw around money to any crook operation. Who else would spend $10 dollars to have someone offed and do it in such an in your face way that the world actually paused to take notice. What is it called false flag ie doing something to make it look like someone else did it? It was contractors from Betchel who were found with a suitcase of money and an empty truck pulling up to a nuclear facility unannounced in the dead of night earlier this year. Just this week one of their joint ventures with India lost a whole lot of nuclear material.

On edit: Also it was made to look like something the "old" heavy handed Soviets would do. Putin is not even an in your face kind of guy.

10. The problem's getting the polonium.

First it has to be extracted from whatever it was made in. That could probably be done chemically. there may be a way of bombarding bismuth that yields just the one isotope, I don't recall. If so, it's really just one step to purify it.

Otherwise, you have to remove the Po-110 from the other isotopes. That *can't* be done chemically ... so then we're talking about a process taking advantage of the isotope's atomic mass ... something like centrifuges.

The suitcase of money and all just quietly slipped away, but I don't think there's a reason for it sneak back in just yet.

Not that i think your claim is implausible, but Litvinenko was not the only person stirring that pot. Did the Bush gang eliminate them to, or are multiple interests intertwined here?

13. Wow! Just when you start thinking you are paranoid for thinking all these things must be connected

somehow, then you see something like this and it confirms that no, your not crazy and that yes, it is all interconnected and that the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together and showing a bigger picture of what has been happening the last decade.

There is definitely something here to this story and I am intriqued to hear more as it develops....

Stay tuned...I have this eerie feeling that someday, it will all be revealed to us how the Bush Administration and Crime Family is more corrupt and dangerous than we could have ever thought and it will be fascinating how the Russians with Putie Poot and the Italians under then-Silvio Berlusconi, and ofcourse the poodle in Great Britain, all had a hand in helping BushCo. pull it all off.
