Thousands of Iraqi police killed in the line of duty (12,000 since '03)
http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/latest/200612251051/thousands_of_iraqi_police_killed_in_the_line_of_duty

The Iraqi government says 12,000 police officers have died in the line of duty since the United States-led invasion in 2003.

The Interior Minister, Jawad Bolani, says the figure is from a total force of about 190,000 officers.

He says that means there has been one death for every 16 officers.

The announcement follows a suicide bomb attack that killed seven policemen and wounded 20 others during a morning parade at a base north of Baghdad.

Iraq's police are a frequent target for attacks, and are widely thought to have been infiltrated by insurgents.

2. Can you imagine if we had rates like that in the U.S?
There would be huge public outcry.

Meanwhile, too many in the media have given a vain, arrogant, dangerously incompetent administration a pass. They've attributed virtues to George W. Bush that he never posssessed.

I hate what has happened in Iraq. I hate what the Bush administration has done to the world. I hate that innocent people are suffering due to ill-thought-out policies and even worse execution.

3. Wounded and unable to work isn't good either
I've heard the total losses are 40,000 killed or wounded and unable to return to work out of the low hundreds of thousands trained. That's not nothing. That's serious numbers.

4. and that figure probably does not include the thousands that
have been blown up standing in line waiting to apply for the job of police officer (one of the few jobs available as the article points out), which is one of the insurgents favorite targets. Heck of a job, Bushie.

5. kind of hard to stand them up...
so we can stand down. I just love when the politicians say the Iraqi's have to start taking responsibility, and not relying on the U.S. for security. What a fucked up world.

what the percentage would be. iraq has 25 million or so people. that rate must be really high compared to populations of similar countries around the world. the unemployed youth are joining the militias because of unemployment...no jobs you can join--wait a minute-- the same happens here in the states
