Saddam loses death sentence appeal: govt official
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi appeals court on Tuesday upheld a ruling that Saddam Hussein should hang for crimes against humanity, Iraq's national security adviser told Reuters.

Under the statute governing the Iraqi High Tribunal, the death sentence must be carried out within the next 30 days.

The former Iraqi leader and two former aides were sentenced to death in November for crimes against humanity over the killings of 148 Shi'ites from the town of Dujail after he escaped assassination there in 1982.

"The court just upheld the verdict and sentence," Iraq's national security adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie told Reuters.

2. Nauseating show intended only to restore
some semblance of manhood to Bush*. I'm not going to defend Sadaam, but this was anything but a principled trial.

I think I'm going to be ill...

6. It was a BushCo trial. This is how we
spread democracy these days. We invade countries who did nothing to us, and proceed to "bring evil-doers to justice." This wasn't a trial--it was a farce.

7. Sick
It was only to be expected from a bunch of crooks who only came to power by backing an illegal foreign invasion of their own country and have been happy to see it turned into a killing zone that's so far cost 600,000 lives on top of tho half-million inflicted by their allies' sanctions. History will jusdge him in the light of the far worse horrors his rule kept in check.

9. "Within the next thirty days" ... it could already be a done deal.
Since we all knew the appeal would fail, isn't it likely the bloodthirsty ones had already made the preps, and the people of Iraq will find out when "we" want them to know.
There is but one appeal under their "law", and he could have been introduced to his virgins five minutes after this last verdict.

...O...

Maybe George plans to lead with a live video feed of Saddam's last moments. What a morale boost that would be. (sarcasm)

15. This is what all those extra troops will be for.

The Sunnis see their government as a puppet for the US, and the coming execution as a US execution. They will take to the streets when it happens and you can bet the violence will go off-scale.

But the idea that thousands of more troops will stop the violence is as ass-backwards as anything else the Super Simian has done. What it will do is put thousands of more American troops in the line of fire.

Stupid is as stupid does. And he certainly is.

Saddam death sentence ruling 'milestone'- WHouse

WACO, Texas, Dec 26 (Reuters) - An Iraqi court decision upholding Saddam Hussein's
death sentence is an "important milestone" for Iraq, White House spokesman Scott
Stanzel said on Tuesday.

"Today marks an important milestone in the Iraqi people's efforts to replace the rule
of a tyrant with the rule of law," he told reporters aboard Air Force One traveling
with President George W. Bush to Texas.

So Junior avenges his dad, no matter what the cost.
That milestone may be the point beyond all hope of recovery.

18. No more than all the other leaders who take revenge for attempts on their lives.
Just think what would happen in this country if one section of the country tried to overthrow the governement...we call that treason, punisihable by death. Saddam's actions were more legitimate self-defense than was our invading his country and killing hundreds of thousands innocent people when, in fact, there was NO threat to our nation. We don't even blink an eye when Olmert order the assassination of Israeli enemies in other countries. We call it wise pre-emptive action. Saddam is no more deserving of death than all the last PM of Israel, Musharaff, and all those south American dictators that we have supported through some of the most base genocide in this hemisphere.

And I don't even like Saddam.

19. AFP: Rights watchdog calls on Baghdad not to execute Saddam
Rights watchdog calls on Baghdad not to execute Saddam

NEW YORK (AFP) - Human Rights Watch urged the Iraqi government not to execute
Saddam Hussein, describing the trial that convicted the former president for crimes
against humanity as "deeply flawed."

"Imposing the death penalty, indefensible in any case, is especially wrong after such
unfair proceedings," said Richard Dicker, director of Human Rights Watch's international
justice programme.

"That a judicial decision was first announced by Iraq's national security adviser
underlines the political interference that marred Saddam Hussein's trial," he added.

Then watch as it slides back below his previous low over the next few months.

24. kangaroo court will show that democracy failed - how many people has BFEE killed and gotten away
with it - this can only lead to worse circumstances - I actually think michael moore makes more sense on this - Trump too - says who ever finally takes over in Iraq will be much worse than Saddam - and Rummy and Cheney created him way back when - this is a mistake - this will prove to the world who is not as dumb as most americans that usa is a bully who supports dictators and then decided to kill them. - what a mess BFEE and PNAC have made of the world? God help us - these hatefilled people have hurt more people

This is such a farce and this whole 'war' thing is a farce - the last real war was WWII and everything since then has been politics and created hatred for USA by BFEE people and republicks
