Waxman sets sights on 'very long list'
Bush administration, war contractors likely to be among Democrat's targets

By BOB DART
Cox News Service

WASHINGTON —
~snip~
He has been called "the Eliot Ness of the Democrats" by Nation magazine, and aims to go after the Republican administration with zeal over the coming two years.

"The most difficult thing will be to pick and choose" what to investigate, Waxman told reporters after the November elections.

"He's got a very long list," said Norman Ornstein, a congressional analyst with the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative-leaning think tank. "I'm sure he's going back to the contracting mess (in Iraq and Afghanistan and post-Katrina), Halliburton and others. And not just contractors."

Waxman also will be examining the role of the federal government, from the Defense Department to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and grilling the officials who greased the deals with contractors, Ornstein predicted.

"Henry is not afraid to go after anyone," said Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., his predecessor as chairman of the committee. "He's going to be very aggressive."

2. I hope this is the real deal, and not just finger-wagging...
...but, to be honest, I'm not hopeful. I don't know how many people would be willing to support this kind of stuff in an
election year because I have a feeling that both sides will get spanked a bit, although the Right will obviously get the
brunt of it.

18. It's always an election year these days.
That's the problem. The people's business isn't getting done because everyone is more worried about getting the job or keeping the job than doing the job.

3. Rep. Waxman has a daunting job ahead of him; I'm so looking forward
to what he digs up, and how he makes the rethugs and contractors squirm. Bring it on, Henry! :applause: :applause:

6. Chairman Waxman, Chairman Conyers, Chairman Waxman, Chairman Conyers
I could do that for a while longer and feel really good about it.

This will be a time for greatness in the House. The Senate has Leahy and Teddy Kennedy is a real warhorse. But these two guys are survivors, winners in the long march to truth and "I told you so."

Let it rip! KR

27. YESSSS! I can't tell you how proud I am - Waxman is MY congressman.
Yummy! He's been trying to go after cheney since early-on, stymied the ENTIRE TIME by republi-CON henchmen, collaborators, and cover-up artists tying his hands in the House, and saddled with minority status that gives his efforts no teeth whatsoever. NOW, though, he has SUBPOENA POWER! He has all the teeth and claws he could want. Now, he has muscle behind his words and his angry letters demanding answers (and repeatedly getting ignored). Now, he can hang a very sharp sword over cheney's head and FORCE cheney to come clean. He's been at this the whole time. Just not with any power behind him. That's all changed now.

And all God's children say - "AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

:toast:  :bounce:  :headbang:

What an honor to vote for such a fine patriot. May his subpoenas reach into the nastiest, stinkiest corners of the Neo-Con's nefarious domain. SG

9. What will happen if the GOP just refuse to cooperate?
This sounds like 2 years of must-see TV. I might even subscribe to a newspaper. But what will happen if the WH and all of the cronies who are looking at prison terms just ignore all the subpoenas?

15. Forget the newspapers...and the radio and the TeeVee...and magazines
They're largely the reason we got into this mess.

I might just upgrade my computer and Internet access to accommodate all those on-line videos and real news sites I want to see of GOPers squirming while doublespeaking!

Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 06:17 PM by depakid
Expecting them to start reporting facts that aren't in line with their corporate "values" is wishful thinking. At best, they will downplay the revelations- or more likely, carry on the "witch hunt" tune.

12. Why does any paper go to AEI for commentary nowadays?
They and their fellow travelers at the Heritage Foundation have been so thoroughly discredited, I don't see how anybody can take them seriously.

Oh right, "liberal media bias."

30. We must support these men
We must talk to our friends about Rep Conyers and Rep Waxman and how they have already been speaking out and trying to get the Republican leadership in the last 10 years to stop the corruption.

We must call into radio shows both left leaning and right leaning and mention these men,, we must do it over and over again. we must pressure the news to report what these men are doing because the neo-cons will try to slander these men.

:patriot:
