A View to a Kill on U.S.-Made Gallows
WASHINGTON - A bit of good old American craftsmanship will bring about Saddam Hussein's end - a specially constructed gallows that might as well be stamped "Made in the U.S.A."

The custom-made gallows for Saddam is located in a highly secure U.S. military prison at Baghdad airport called Camp Cropper, where the former Iraqi dictator is currently imprisoned.

One morning, sometime between today and 30 days from now, Saddam will be awakened by his American guards and told it's judgment day.

There will be no prior public notification of Saddam's date with the executioner.

1. They wouldn't even let an Iraqi business build the gallows? How tacky....
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 04:46 PM by xultar
I wonder when they started building them. I'm sure it was before the verdict.

4. Exactly what I was thinking. Good Ole' Halliburton...Gallows Makers.
I can't believe they won't even let an Iraqi make the gallows. That is some sick ass shit.

When word gets out about that in the Arab world it won't be purty.

5. No doubt a $12 billion contract
complete w/concession stands & wireless communication network & 250,000 American flags--a true media extravaganza!
Prime fodder for the neos & their love of exploitive drama.

3. NO! They just CAN'T be this dumb!
:banghead: Please tell me this is Murdoch & Co.'s wishful thinking.

Take a flawed trial and a short-circuited appeals process.
Add a secret execution on a foreigner's gallows. Shake well.

Do you think they've thrown enough gasoline on this fire?

No troop "surge" will be big enough to contain the resulting
explosion.

7. This will do much to end the insurgency just as....
the death of Saddam's son's did
Just as the elections did
Just as the death of Al Zarqawi did
just as.....

Personally I think 600K dead Iraqis, a totally destabilized Middle East and 100s of thousands of dead Iraqis is WAY WAY WAY to high a price to pay for one person but I know the Freepers think it was a good exchange.

9. It's a stupid move
A U.S. gallows in a U.S. prison will equal a U.S. execution in the middle east. Give it a year, and Hussein will be remembered as a martyr.

12. I suppose Chimpy
will be watching on closed circuit. Expect the timing to be convenient.

Finally a product, the manufacture of which, repubs are reluctant to outsource. At least that will keep Walmart from selling them.

17. Bush, Cheney, Gates, and Rummy too should be there in person.
After all, this is the culmination of what they've put so much effort into.

They deserve to be right there and experience someone being killed before their eyes first hand. A hanging is so much tidier than an IED, so they won't get their expensive suits all spattered either. :sarcasm:

Iraq: Reverse Decision to Execute Saddam

Appeals Chamber Should Review Flawed Verdict

(New York, December 26, 2006) – The Iraqi government should not implement the death sentence against Saddam Hussein, which was imposed after a deeply flawed trial for crimes against humanity, Human Rights Watch said today. The Appeals Chamber of the Iraqi High Tribunal, which was first reported by Iraq’s national security adviser to have upheld the sentence, should have conducted a thorough legal review of the verdict and then announced its findings, Human Rights Watch said.

<snip>

A report issued in November 2006 by Human Rights Watch, which has demanded the prosecution of Saddam Hussein and his lieutenants for more than a decade, identified numerous serious flaws in the trial of Hussein for the Dujail executions. The 97-page report, “Judging Dujail: The First Trial Before the Iraqi High Tribunal,” was based on 10 months of observation and dozens of interviews with judges, prosecutors and defense lawyers.

The report found that the Iraqi High Tribunal was undermined from the outset by Iraqi government actions that threatened the independence and perceived impartiality of the court. It disclosed serious flaws in the trial, including regular failures to disclose key evidence, violations of the defendants’ right to confront witnesses, and lapses of judicial demeanor.

“Judging Dujail” also shows that the Iraqi High Tribunal as an institution has struggled to competently perform basic functions that are essential to a fair and effective trial. It failed to develop effective programs to address the needs of witnesses and victims or to ensure the security of defense lawyers, and ignored the important task of explaining the trial process to the Iraqi population.

18. What a sham of a trial...especially since Saddam had agreed to Bush's terms prior
to the illegal invasion. This trial needs to be re-done and Bush needs to be tried as well with Saddam as a witness. More destruction of evidence by the Bush Crime Family.

19. getting worried about the timing
CNN is showing Arwa Damon in Baghdad with the banner title "Developing Story" and they have a colorful new graphic for the execution. I think that this might be happening real soon for several reasons: 1. to steal some thunder from the dem takeover, 2. to steal some thunder from Edwards' announcement, 3. to cover the realization and awareness of the number of fallen troops this next week, 4. to cover the addition of thousands of into the region....and several others
(tin foil hat on firmly)
On a side note, start to watch the physical appearance and dress of tv correspondents in Iraq. Also, be sure to notice that everyone is secured in the greenzone, because no one will want to be out on the street when the news of the hanging hits the fan.
I just wonder if we really are going to film and show the execution, or merely show his body in state in order to prove that he is really dead.
