Chris Brown, former All-Star third baseman (and Halliburton employee) dies after (arson) house fire
in, of all places, Sugar Land, TX.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Chris Brown, an All-Star third baseman who played six seasons in the majors in the 1980s, died Tuesday, nearly a month after he was burned in a fire at his home outside Houston. He was 45....

Authorities say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and how Brown was burned. Doug Adolph, a spokesman for the Sugar Land police and fire departments, said arson is suspected....

A few years ago, Brown took a job with Halliburton Co. and ended up in Iraq driving, inspecting and repairing 18-wheel fuel trucks. In a 2004 telephone interview with The Associated Press, he said he'd faced enemy fire several times....

Adolph said officials at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital told the Sugar Land fire department later that morning that Brown was there being treated for burns he suffered in a fire at his house. How Brown got from the burning house to the hospital about 9 miles away is part of the investigation, Adolph said.

And to think, if Brown had not happened to have once played major-league baseball, this one would've gone straight down the memory hole!

4. "Firefighters found no people or furniture inside..."
"...he said, and neighbors told authorities no one had lived there for some time." All in Sugar Land, TX, and wrapped in Halliburton. I agree it's time to break out the tin foil on this one.

5. Brown claimed to have a "sprained eyelash" once went he played for the Giants ....
Chris Brown made Barry Bonds look like Mr Lovable ... lots of talent, but was a complete 'tin man' (no heart), even Darryl Strawberry and Kevin Mitchell (two guys who were no picnic to deal with) hated him when they were Brown's teammates.

7. I don't think either Strawberry or Mitchell were ever a teammate of Brown's
In fact, I know Mitchell wasn't. He came to the Giants in the deal the sent Brown to the Padres. That was the best trade the Giants ever made.

You're right about Brown being a tin man. If he skinned himself cutting his nails, he was out of the line up for three games. It's really too bad. He was one of the best defensive third basemen in the majors when he played.

May he rest in peace.

8. Strawberry and Brown were teammates in High School, I think the Mitchell ....
Mitchell thing was confusion on my part ... I seem to remember Mitchell and Brown getting into spat in batting practice one day, so that's why I thought they were teammates (probably it was batting practice before the game and usually the visiting team goes first and the home second and I guess some players from both teams were mingling at the time)

6. Enron bigshot Baxter committed suicide in Sugar Land
He conveniently used untraceable ratshot. It doesn't seem like the luckiest place, for ex-Enron employees.
