Saddam could be executed within days-U.S. official

CRAWFORD, Texas, Dec 28 (Reuters) - The Iraqi government has told U.S. officials that former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein could be executed within the next few days, a senior Bush administration official said on Thursday.

"I've heard that it's going to be a couple more days, probably," the official said while Bush took a holiday break at his Texas ranch.

He said he had heard from U.S. officials in Baghdad that the execution would not be Thursday U.S. time or Friday Baghdad time. "It's going to be maybe another day or so," the official said.

...

The U.S. official's comments were at odds with those of Iraqi officials who earlier backed away from suggestions Saddam would be hanged within a month. The officials said that the hanging would occur within 30 days only if Iraq's president issues a decree it takes place immediately, which seemed unlikely.

1. And the world watches the hypocrisy of bush's America.
American rightwingnuts may be fooled.

Even some American non-rightwingnuts may be fooled.

But the rest of the world is not. From start to whenever-finished, America under bush has shown the world exactly what America is. And it ain't pretty.

3. It is sad and ironic
We could kill all the "leaders" of the bad guys over there and it would not change one thing on the ground. Our kids will continue to be slaughtered and hatred and violence will continue to spread. Just the way "conservatives" want it.

4. Nice, sounds to me like the White House is sending a message to the Iraqi Govt t
that they'd like to see Saddam removed sooner rather than later. That's what this little "news" article sounds like to me.

5. They are going to want it done before Bush announces
his new Iraq plan and the State Of The Union Address in January. But once he is executed, the violence is going to escalate significantly. I feel a sense of embarrassment that we are part of this. It does not matter that the Iraqi's are the ones who execute him, it has our fingerprints all over it. Any subsequent terror attacks on American soil because of this execution will hurt innocent citizens but Bush will still be protected. His actions put us in danger once again.

6. Prediction - it happens within 24 hours of the 3000th US KIA
Pictures of his hanging body will be leaked immediately. There'll be a grissly orgy of smirky self-congratulations by Bush and his henchmen. It'll crowd out the "bad news".
