Sen. Lieberman seeks 'more troops' for 'winnable' Iraq war
What is with this guy?! Even a lot of Republicans have admitted the war was a mistake yet he's still as delusional as ever.

Sen. Lieberman seeks 'more troops' for 'winnable' Iraq war

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I/D-CT) has written an op-ed for The Washington
Post in which he explains his reasons for why more troops are needed
in Iraq. Lieberman argues that the war is "winnable," yet acknowledges
that "more U.S. forces might not be a guarantee of success" in the
fight.

"I've just spent 10 days traveling in the Middle East and speaking to
leaders there," writes Lieberman, "all of which has made one thing
clearer to me than ever: While we are naturally focused on Iraq, a
larger war is emerging.

"On one side are extremists and terrorists led and sponsored by Iran,
on the other moderates and democrats supported by the United States,"
the Senator continues. "Iraq is the most deadly battlefield on which
that conflict is being fought. How we end the struggle there will
affect not only the region but the worldwide war against the
extremists who attacked us on Sept. 11, 2001."

In August 2006, Lieberman, who lost the Democratic primary to
challenger Ned Lamont but defeated him in the general election,
criticized Lamont's Iraq exit strategy by saying, "If we just pick up
like Ned Lamont wants us to do ... it will be taken as a tremendous
victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this
plot hatched in England." Lamont responded, "That comment sounds an
awful lot like Vice President Cheney's comment... Both of them believe
our invasion of Iraq has a lot to do with 9/11."

5. Well, what can you do?
You go into the majority party with the senators you have, not the senators you want.

Not revealing his true motives, which have nothing whatsoever to do with persisting the United States as a Constitutionally sourced secular society.

15. Indeed. He's a scary individual.
He's a "moral" crusader when it comes to entertainment, like Gore's moronic wife. This guy was preoccupied with gangster rap and Prince songs during the 80s and 90s. All the while, government could have been preparing for the future with sensible energy policy emphasizing alternatives and conservation, thereby negating the need to even be involved in the Middle East. This guy was worried about Janet Jackson's tit rather than our trade deficit and American jobs.

20. It wouldn't help a bit.
Holy Joe has an incredible talent for not caring about what other people think. He makes up his mind and that's the end of it. He'll never change direction or admit to mistakes. Doesn't that sound kind of familiar?

He's as clueless as Bush as to what our troops in Iraq are going through.

9. Doesn't matter. He took a '10 day tour' of the middle east.
Spoke to the leaders there.

He's an expert.

Besides, Lieberman's adopted Homer Simpson's battlecry:
"Can't somebody else do it?"

It works in Ct. just as it did for Homer in Springfield.

11. The only good thing I can say about Joe is at least he wears the independent label now
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 04:19 PM by ribrepin
Democrats should NEVER refer to Joe as a "Democrat independent" only independent. The Democratic party needs to put as much distance between themselves and Joe as possible.

Lamont did a service to his party and country by running. He forced Joe to become an independent. Good on Lamont.

Do these chuckleheads really believe that 20,000 more troops are going to provide stability for Iraq?. We couldn't do it with 500,000 in vietnam

25. Actually, we do need him
If he decides, like Jeffords, that the other party will serve him better, then he will flip his caucus.

We created this monster, we better make peace with it. The alternative is much worse.

Peace.

29. Let him become a Republican, then it will be the all Republican war.

Sorry but I would rather have Lieberman a Republican than a mole for them, undermining the Democrats position on the war. He is trouble, screw him, get it over with and let him go. Then deal with it and move on.

32. My heart is with you, but the political animal in me knows better
Committee chairs are assigned to the majority party. The Majority Leader determines the flow of legislation to the floor.

These are what make or break a party's agenda in the Senate.

But man oh man, I do know how you feel.

Peace.

31. We didn't create this Lieberman monster, Judas Joe is his own creation.
Lieberman's support for Bush's surge will lead to many unnecessary deaths, but it won't be able to prevent a humiliating defeat for America in Iraq.

The Iraq Study Group offered a big fig leaf of a way out of Iraq, a way out with at least a semblance of honor for those that care about such things. Bush and Lieberman's rejection of the Iraq Study Group is the ultimate act of folly of a government responsible for the biggest strategic and foreign policy failure in America's history.

Why would another 40,000 make a difference in Iraq? They will just make a more "target rich" environment for the other side.

23. Ah, my dear Senator, tell who these "moderate" leadrs are
Hosni Mubarak? King Abdallah? The House of Saud?

Gee, I remember when Saddam was a moderate Arab. It was around the same time Nicolae Ceauşescu was a moderate Communist.

Some say Joe Lieberman is a moderate Democrat. The people who say that are usually Republican extremists. I say Lieberman is willing prostitute to the tyrant US dictator.

24. As we escalate this into the grand and larger war of which he speaks
it seems like a whole lot of civilians are going to die. What is it now in Iraq alone; over 700,000? Hundreds of thousands of dead civilians, if not eventually millions who will pay for these wonderful military adventures seem to be of no consequence to Mr. Lieberman.

I just could not do it. I am a bit regretful in retrospect, but this man is a bigger warmaniac than Cheney. I think his influence in a Gore administration would have been not negligible. Furthermore, it made me question Gore's political orientation as well.
