Bush slept while Saddam hanged

Bush slept while Saddam hanged

Washington, Dec 30 (DPA) US President George W. Bush slept through the execution of Saddam Hussein after learning that the former Iraqi dictator was about to be hanged.

Presidential spokesman Scott Stanzel said Bush was informed of the impending hanging Friday afternoon and went to bed shortly before it took place at 9 p.m. Washington time, with instructions not to be woken up.

...

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke of 'a great day' for the Iraqi people after the death sentence was carried out.

White House spokesman Tony Snow said Saddam had the lives of between 500,000 and 1 million people on his conscience, adding that his death was a warning to other dictators that they could also be held accountable for their actions.

38. Didn't Bushboy have to run for cover the same day he had
Saddam 'assassinated'? As I recall the weather conditions in TX were unstable with thunderstorms and tornado warnings. Bush, Laura and the dog were put into a Hummer and whisked away to a 'rabbit hole' like emergency shelter there on the pig farm due to the tornado warnings. I only mention it because I think it is pretty ironic. I do wonder now and then how the Bushboy is enjoying Saddams' pistol as if the twit could actually fire it without shooting himself or someone else accidently.

41. welcome to DU, DogPoundPup! Yes, the "Axis of Weather"
(tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards) is clearly out to get poor Dubya.

Re: the pistol, I think your concerns are well-founded, given that he seems to be unable to operate more benign equipment such as Segways and sofas without injuring himself, or others (as when he bicycled into that Scottish policeman).

"Neither Bush nor members of his inner circle showed any compassion for the fate of Saddam or expressed doubts about the death penalty that was criticised by many European governments.

During Bush's term as Texas governor, some 152 people were executed, more than under any other US state governor.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke of 'a great day' for the Iraqi people after the death sentence was carried out.
.
.
.
Right up till the end the US administration had sought to convey the impression that it was not involved in any way in the events surrounding the trial of Saddam.

'We are only observers,' said one official. But the US financed the special tribunal that sentenced him to death, trained the judges and helped formulate the charges against the deposed leader.

US troops guarded Saddam until shortly before his death when they handed him over to his Iraqi hangmen, according to television reports."

9. Personally, I would like
to see Tony Snow eat his own words about someone who carelessly takes lives of their citizens...or other dictators....let's think for a minute...

---Approaching 3000 of our soldiers dead for what? Lies....and more lies.

----Unknown (or undisclosed, altho I think it IS unknown based on the ineptitude of this admin) soldiers maimed for life - 30,000 on the 'light' side?

----Hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis dead for what? (starting to sound like a eulogy for Saddam isn't it?)

-----Approximately 3000 civilians in NOLA and the Gulf Coast KILLED by Bush and his ineptitude to do 'right' by his own people

---Greedy and corruption in his own government to further his own cause and line his own pockets.......

Gee, excuse me, who hung today? For what reasons again was he executed? Did I in my sloppy liberal thinking miss something here?

And as far as him sleeping while Saddam swung? HA! Anyone who believes that has been drinking the same shit he drinks. He was sleeping alright, with a woody and a wet one. Probably had Jeff Gannon or Rove or Kenny Melman laying next to him.

Too bad the tornado didn't take him and 'Dorothy, aka Pickles' to kansas the other night. ...but then I suppose the Wizard didn't want to put up with him either. Had to laugh tho, they took 'refuge' in a 4WD vehicle? For what - to outrun Mother Nature? Please.

Well, Saddam I hope Allah was merciful to you and you have finally found what you deserve and so believed in.

When Saddam was killed at 5:57 AM, Washington was at 9:57 PM.

Bush must have gone to bed at 9:30 PM or earlier to fall asleep at 9:57PM.

14. Was he polishing Saddam's pistol?

A Saddam Souvenir
President Bush keeps the former dictator's pistol at arm's reach

When Saddam Hussein was rousted from his spider hole in Dawr, a town near Tikrit, by U.S. soldiers last December, Iraq's fallen dictator was clutching a pistol. He is now in detention at an undisclosed location, being questioned by American authorities and awaiting charges for war atrocities and crimes against humanity. But what ever happened to the pistol?

The sidearm has made its way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Sources say that the military had the pistol mounted after the soldiers seized it from Saddam and that it was then presented to the President privately by some of the troops who played a key role in ferreting out the old tyrant. Though it was widely reported at the time that the pistol was loaded when they grabbed Saddam, Bush has told visitors that the gun was empty—and that it is still empty and safe to touch. "He really liked showing it off," says a recent visitor to the White House who has seen the gun. "He was really proud of it."

but isn't it against the law to have war trophies when you are Prez? I thought there was something illegal about him having it, but can't remember all of it now.

In any event, I hope he sleeps with it loaded under his pillow...........

....going to squander the might, wealth and reputation of the United States (not to mention 3000 American lives) on destroying a third-world country and the hanging of it's leader, you should at least have the decency to stay awake for the festivities....have a beer, eat some pretzels, order a pizza, call Tony over for a BJ....

....of course, you might have been over-tired and in need of some rest from a hard days work, in which case, I understand completely....

...George the First's role in the death squads of Nicaragua, El Salvador, the empowerment of Saddam Hussein to do the deeds for which he was hanged after his kangaroo trial and so much more and of course this inbred brat now entrenched in our White House I think that if Gee Dub did sleep through the hanging it is because another witness has been silenced and because his family does not have the conscience gene.

cheneys graves when they die.

You should try it. The average adult tap class is 1 hr once a week for around $15, and has a great group of mostly over 40's in it. We have some 60yo's in my class to and a few 20 smths. That's only if you would want to tap though. I'm looking forward to the day I can use my new found skills for what I planned them for.

Apparently there are quite a few people who are going to make a pilgrimage there in order to carry out the ceremony of pouring out a graveside libation of the beverage of their choice ... and to REALLY express how they feel about those gentlemen, they will probably ... um .... filter the beverage through their kidneys first. Judging by the number of expected visitors, the graves could be submerged by the time the rest of us get there!

...goes to bed early...

..."works" at the ranch

...the whole "ranch" thing itself.. (it's a pricey chi-chi GREEN house built on a former PIG FARM.. it has no livestock..no equipment..and when he's done, he'll sell it pronto.. It's a PROP!!!)
