Global Warming Expert Fears 'Refugee Crisis'
The Second of Four Major Reports on Climate Change Says It's a Different World Already

April 2, 2007 — Within two or three decades, there could be one and a half billion people without enough water, according to a new report on the impacts of global warming.

Such droughts would produce "refugee crises like we've never seen," as one of the study's lead authors told ABC News.

Scientists working on the "Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability" report have been telling ABC News for months that its findings, once public, would be alarming. The report is being prepared by the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made up of 2,500 experts in the field.

Scientists are hammering out that report's final wording in Brussels and are due to announce it on Friday.

1. Water
It's been predicted for years that the next wars will be fought over water. Unfortunately this planet is overpopulated and there isn't enough water, or jobs, to go around for everyone.

3. just don't come after OUR great lakes...
there's only enough there for the seven states and one province that surround them- we've suffered through plenty of cold winters and crappy weather to EARN the right to all that delicious fresh water.

and we don't want any scruffy refugees from florida flocking up our way once your hell-hole state slides under the waves.

5. Yeah and the industries located
around the Great Lakes that you people lived off of for years - without questioning or urging changes in practices - were some of the biggest contributors to the problem.

One and a half BILLION people needing to migrate will put a lot of pressure on knee jerk attitudes about borders, racism and economic selfishness.

Migration will be THE biggest challenge to everyone everywhere that will be brought about by climate change. I hope we handle these problems humanely, but the cynic in me says we won't.
