Experts testify on $5M for boot camp family

TALLAHASSEE - Lawyers for Martin Lee Anderson's family said Friday that authorities tried to cover up events at a boot camp where the teen was kneed, struck and had ammonia forced into his nose before dying.

Attorneys known as special masters, who weigh evidence on claims against the government, heard testimony on a bill that would pay the family $5 million in compensation. The two special masters will make recommendations at a later date.

Bay County has already agreed to a $2.4 million settlement with the family for its role in the Jan. 5, 2006, events at the sheriff's camp for juveniles in Panama City. A videotape showed seven guards manhandling the 14-year-old while a staff nurse stood by and watched until the youngster collapsed.

"Forty minutes of torture," attorney Ben Crump said. "We want to make certain you understand the total breadth of the holocaust in their lives."

1. It's scary what happens to some of these kids in boot camp.

Remember a few years back when there was a tape of a young (very thin and frail looking) soldier being shoved around by a pool by his sergeant...the young man later drowned.

It's all so sad.

3. I have a problem with these Special Masters appointed by the House and Senate

and with these Special Masters reporting the same State House and State Senate.

If anyone should appoint these Special Masters it should had been the State Court.
And if anyone should decide the action based on the findings of the Special Masters it should be the State Court.

Legislature function is to legislate not decide cases.

The nurse that did nothing while it happen in front of her should also lose her license.

The state murdered a child for no reason other than sadism.

Normally, the law and order types would be demanding the death penalty for this heinous action, but will the murderers even face jail time?
