Judge: I Saw Police Commit Felonies (Fla. protests)
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 12:57 PM by joeunderdog
A judge who said he witnessed some of the anti-free trade protests complains in open court about how police handled the demonstrations.

A judge presiding over the cases of free trade protesters said in court that he saw ''no less than 20 felonies committed by police officers'' during the November demonstrations, adding to a chorus of complaints about police conduct.

Judge Richard Margolius, 60, made the remarks in open court last week, saying he was taken aback by what he witnessed while attending the protests.

''Pretty disgraceful what I saw with my own eyes. And I have always supported the police during my entire career,'' he said, according to a court transcript. ``This was a real eye-opener. A disgrace for the community.''

1. Thank God for the judicial branch...
For the most part, judges as of late have really been stepping up to the plate and doing their job, which is supposed to defend the Constitution and how it relates to Joe Six-Pack, not just the priveleged few. Maybe we're not lost, after all.

Attaboy, Your Honor.

2. A Bush operation
Funded by our tax money for rebuilding Iraq. I'm so afraid New York is going to be a repeat of Chicago, 1968.

7. I think you're confused about the terminology
A felony is a felony, even before the trial. "Felony" is part of the classification of the suspected offense, ie., Class A, Class B Felonies, vs Misdemeanors, etc...

What you would be correct in saying is that the suspects, suspected of felonies, are not FELONS until after the trial.

So while the officers suspected are not FELONS until after the trial, the crimes they are alleged to have committed are still FELONIES.
