Lieberman makes a move in New Hampshire., into an apartment
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- In a move believed to be unprecedented in New Hampshire primary history, Joe Lieberman took temporary residence in the state in a last-month push to win over voters.

The U.S. senator from Connecticut, who is seeking the Democratic nomination, greeted reporters Monday at his new, furnished, two-bedroom apartment in the state's largest city.

(snip)

"As we looked at the schedule, it looked like we were going to spend so much time here we said, 'Why not just move in for a month and use this as a base of action?' Occasionally, we'll go out to other states."

(snip)

After carrying in a couple of boxes inside, Lieberman threw down a welcome mat outside the two-bedroom apartment, and invited reporters inside for a brief news conference and tour.

1. its a sign of desperation...
to put all your chips into one state as Joe is doing now. Contrast with Dean, whose operation is nationwide with headquarters out of Burlington, VT.

Im sure the people of CT are thrilled with this move...

2. Oh why not
I guess its a good move, he didn't get much of a bump after the Saddam capture, so why not. Maybe this will get him a few more votes, I hope so.

11. While he is not a favorite, that is a bit of an overstatement...
There are many, many who rate more ire of Duers than Sen. Lieberman. Just say the names: DeLay, Barr, Jeb!, Frist&Lott, and numerous others... then try Zell Miller... and some other democrats who vote along those lines. In comparison - Lieberman is embraced. In terms of the current field, however, Lieberman does garner quite a bit of DU ire. The problem for Sen. Lieberman here is that his voting (and vocal) history has a little bit to really ire a whole lot of democrats. For those that may accept the war resolution vote, there is his history on economic issues (he was at odds with the Clinton administration on various corporate accounting type issues that could have prevented - some of the most egregious actions that led to the Enron and World Com implosions among others.), for others there are his siding with the social conservatives (support for voucher programs in education, lead on 'censorship' issues related to the entertainment industry (including video games), and others. So while some democratic candidates lose support in one area or another... Joe loses support on a number of fronts. Some of the reactions towards Senator Lieberman do feel over the top. But I have seen few indications that he is more disliked than the republicans, nor more than some of the democrats who have taken towards voting more and more with Bushco. His problem is that in multiple areas he has alienated various groups of voters.

13. That was one of the most civil explanations of disapproval
that I've heard on DU about Lieberman. And you did it with brevity! Thanks.

8. It might get him a few more votes like the apartment neighbors might vote
for him just to get him to shut up and quit droning on and on to them.

9. Welcome auburnblu!
Here at DU it is considered good sport to dump on Lieberman. A few brave souls will occasionally enter the fray and speak up in favor of Joe, but for the most part they are shat upon.

I am not a Lieberman basher and I speak out when I can, but it is mostly a useless endeavor here because many vocal DU-ers have decided Lieberman isn't even a Democrat. No matter that he has a 100% rating at NARAL and a wonderful record on the environment. No matter his pursuit of Bush on all kinds of issues.

Many of the moderate Democrats who like Joe lurk around for fear of being trounced, but we aren't going to go away, are we?

7. Iowa might make sense...

It's more than a 2-1/2 hour drive from Connecticut. :) Some people in Southern California probably have longer daily commutes!

(edited to correct drive time)

14. Larry King with Maher
MAHER: He seems to thinks so. But the Lieberman campaign seems to be under the impression that there's a large block of voters in America who think George Bush would be perfect if he was just Jewish.
