Senators push for immigration compromise
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Members of a bipartisan group of U.S. senators are pushing to reach agreement on immigration reform that would offer some illegal immigrants a chance to become citizens, and the coming month will prove critical to their efforts.

Lawmakers have been struggling to come up with a formula providing tougher border and workplace enforcement while addressing the status of some 11 million illegal immigrants who live and work in the shadows.

"I am really hopeful we can come up with something we can all live with," said Sen. Mel Martinez, a Florida Republican, who is among a bipartisan group that has been participating in the discussions.

The group is working to meet a mid-May deadline. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, has set aside the last two weeks of the month for the Senate to debate immigration legislation

This should be great for GOP fundraising. Why can't they just drop this for awhile?

1. There is already employer-based enforcement
It's been there forf 20 years. It's never enforced.

Just passing laws means nothing if they are ignored. Anyone who immigrates must know that they won't be enforced. It's just so stupid. We ought to cut back on them to the point where we are willing to enforce them, and quit the magical thinking and the fantasies.

5. Gotta' agree...
if government wanted to stop it they would quit with the "border fence" jazz and simply enforce HARSH penalties at the employers end of things...having been in the trades for almost 30 years now I can tell ya' the construction contractors (read: special interest group) have no desire to see it end...and you can just fan that out through the whole service sector...

I gotta' agree with others; I LOVE that picture! Either a wedgie, or she's got his balls in her hand and is givin' 'em a good ol' Texas squeeze... :)
