Mortar rounds slam Baghdad's Green Zone

By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA, Associated Press Writer 28 minutes ago

BAGHDAD - Mortar rounds slammed into the U.S.-controlled Green Zone on Tuesday, with one striking within 100 yards of the Iraqi prime minister's offices, a government official said. No casualties were reported.

It was the second attack against the Green Zone in 12 hours, and it underscored heightened concerns about security in the area that is home to the U.S. and British embassies and thousands of American troops.

The first round of explosions occurred at about 10 p.m. Monday and another round struck at about 10 a.m. Tuesday.

U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said no military personnel were injured and no equipment reported damaged in Monday's strike.

9. * realizes that they can't get to us here, so he has to send us there
to reduce their costs. He believes in free trade terraism and it's much more profitable to deliver the meat to the grinder when you have the transport contract. Starting up an Air Terra airline, offering one way trips to the US is a losing deal just on the negative connotations. But if you can extract money from the Treasury to supply (extra profit using cut rate and insufficient supplies) and transport troops, you make out like a bandit.

10. Or they just keep side-stepping the question
From the article.

"Garver referred questions about possible casualties among the other foreigners and Iraqis who live and work in the Green Zone to the U.S. Embassy, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment."

7. They've been taking potshots for years.
It's definitely not accurate, predicted fire, but all it takes is one golden mortar round to ruin your day.
