Wolfowitz could quit if his name is cleared
Paper: World Bank chief wants the bank to clear him of wrongdoing

MSNBC News Services
Updated: 46 minutes ago

Paul Wolfowitz has signaled he may consider resigning from his post as president of the World Bank, but only if the bank’s board clears him of having done anything wrong when he offered a generous compensation package to his girlfriend, according to a report on The Wall Street Journal’s Web site.

Until now, Wolfowitz has indicated he will not leave his post, criticizing what he calls a “smear campaign” against him. On Monday, he told a bank panel he had acted in good faith in securing a promotion and pay raise for his girlfriend. He said had no plans to resign, and President Bush gave him a fresh endorsement.

2. Right, So They Clear Him
Then he says why should I quit when my name has been cleared. He's a neocon, euphemism for liar and cheat.

24. Right! Why doesn't he stay and get handed his hat and shoved toward the door?
It can definitely be arranged, no doubt.

Then he doesn't need to worry about clearing his name before resigning.

5. It's called extortion.
The guy who claimed that his laser focus at the World Bank was to clean up corruption is caught with one hand in the cookie jar and one hand in somebody's pants. So, Mr. Anti-Corruption won't resign unless we all pretend we didn't see that.

And Bush is behind him 110%.

18. When our chldren pull this crap, we turn up the volume on the discipline.
Edited on Tue May-01-07 09:24 AM by Buzz Clik
We might be tempted to give in to "emotional blackmail" from our kids -- we give them what they want if they just shut the hell up -- but the downside is raising irresponsible children. Wolfowitz is apparently used to getting what he wants by using heavy handed methods.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

That has characterized his career to date, he'll resign under fire *IF* he's cleared?

10. Wolfowitz Almost Gone
Wolfowitz Almost Gone http://www.economicpolicymonitor.com/

Paul Wolfowitz, through his lawyer, Robert Bennett, released the seven page statement he read to members of an ad hoc committee investigating his conduct in getting his girlfriend promotions and pay raises.

Wolfowitz, in the statement, blamed everybody but himself and his girlfriend for the mess. But all you need to read in the statement is the final paragraph to know how this soap opera will end.

The last paragraph was a clear sign of a desperate Wolfowitz maneuvering and manipulating what is now his inevitable departure. “Only when the cloud of these unfair and untrue charges is removed, will it be truly possible to determine objectively whether I can be an effective leader of the World Bank,” the statement reads. That's Wolfowitz talk for, "Give me some twig of cover and my tax free $400,000 salary, and I will be out of here quicker than you can say 'Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction buried under the World Bank headquarters in Baghdad.'"

17. Wolfowitz is a criminal. The bank should not back down in its efforts to oust him.
Next, the Europeans will force a change to the process by which the US President appoints the Bank President.

Another example of the loss of US influence and power in the world thanks to the criminal Bush regime.

Sad days for my Nation and I only hope to see a partial recovery in my lifetime.

19. This is interesting...
An article from 2005, saying that "Wolfie"'s girlfriend could cost him his World Bank job.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=342048&in_page_id=1770

a) I had no idea the creep was a "womanizer" - EEWWW.
b) I had no idea what a conflict of interest she presented re: her views on Middle East politics.

Like all Bush appointments/suggestions, this guy should be tossed on his ass - and without his $400,000 parachute!

Edited on Tue May-01-07 10:00 AM by eringer
Looks like he stalled long enough to draft up a generous buy-out for himself. You know he has got connections with the personnel department. Too bad his girl friend is not an American. Bush could appoint her to head the World Bank. I bet that Bush is thinking that Wolfowitz would make a great War Czar.
