4,000 U.S. soldiers arrive in Baghdad

BAGHDAD - Bombings and shootings killed 10 people Wednesday, including three Sunni brothers who were shot to death in Baghdad, and nearly 4,000 U.S. soldiers arrived in the capital as a crackdown aimed at quelling the sectarian violence entered its 12th week.

The security efforts come as President Bush is engaged in a fierce debate with the Democratic-led Congress over the war in Iraq. Bush vetoed legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq Tuesday night in a historic showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.

10. This "slow motion" surge stuff is a transparent attempt to buy time.

It's Rovian in its sliminess if not Rovian in its genesis. They increase the troop strength slowly hoping to buy time. Something good happens? It's the surge. Something bad happens? The troops aren't all there yet. Then they just add a few thousand more troops to the plan whenever they need a couple more months.

Dems still don't have these Bushie war geniuses cornered politically. The Republicans made and abetted the most disastrous decision in modern U.S. history. Yet they actually have the temerity to even run a presidential candidate in 2008. That is what is amazing.

The GOP has the United States addicted to "war heroin." We can't get off it without withdrawal symptoms, we keep needing progressively more and more, and the pushers just keep upping the dose to keep us comfortable while they rob us and let us waste away.
