Calls growing for Olmert's resignation

By ARON HELLER, Associated Press Writer 26 minutes ago

JERUSALEM - Telling his rivals to "slow down," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called an emergency meeting of his Cabinet Wednesday in a feverish attempt to hold on to power following a scathing report on his handling of last year's war in Lebanon.

This week's report has set off a growing chorus of calls for Olmert's resignation, including from members of his coalition government. A top lawmaker in Olmert's Kadima Party became the highest-ranking official to urge Olmert to step down, and party officials said Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, a party heavyweight, would follow suit later in the day.

The 34-day war against the Islamic group Hezbollah has been widely perceived as a failure. Monday's report said Olmert bore ultimate responsibility, accusing him of poor judgment, hasty decision making and lack of vision.

2. I hope Olmert can weather this storm and hold on...
I live in eastern Asia.
We get a lot of news pertaining to this region from various news services.
Everyone knowledgeable about Israel says if there are new elections it will be netenyahu back in power.
There is no worse choice from the legitimate list of candidates than benji netanyahu!

4. I agree, Netanyahu is awful...
but I am not sure he'd get back in (horrible thought if he does!!!). At present, there are a number of possible left-wing choices. If they all united around one good candidate, perhaps that candidate would win. I hope so, anyway.

Israeli elections tend to be very close, and to end up with no party having an outright majority so that deals need to be made with very small parties. That makes it very hard to predict results.

3. I know their are some peace lovers in Israel. There are some who

approved his war. There are plenty of war perpetuators. There are plenty who profit from war. I don't think we can form opinions until we learn who it is that is unhappy with him - who's complaining about the miserable massacre and destruction in Lebanon, the building of the wall that makes the lives of many Palestinians hell. And who is it that guides our PNAC AIPAC + on the intended takeover of the ME and bombing the heck out of Iran which is the number 1 priority of WHO in Israel? Is it led by Netanyahu - an opportunistic moment?

We really don't know who is who. Tell me what the peace makers, peace lovers say. It would help me analyze.

We are really missing data when it comes to Israel. It's our own fault if I can speak for myself and a few others - we accepted Israel, didn't realize how Palestinians were held down and treated so horribly (lack of public relations in the U.S.?), ignored there eye-for-eye killings and war, don't understand the eye for eye decades old ruination, blindly accepted that it was all Arafat's fault, then started to watch a little during peace talks, felt good about accords, then watched as we learned how crucial the Palestinian issues were to the acceptance of Israel, with Israel doing nothing in the last 10 years but make things go over the cliff. Then, top if off with the utter transparency of the U.S./Israel alliances, the influence of partisan Zion members in the Pentagon and other top levels of government including policy makers. Impressions... turning me very bitter.

Waiting, waiting for the peace lovers of Israel. I don't want to be a pawn of the problem there when there is never any progress, just more death, more destruction. Do we all understand what it's like to blow up a country's infrastructure as well as their homes - skipping the bodies for a moment. All because of a leader? Yes, a leader in cahoots with other leaders.

I can believe that Netanyahu could be worse. We know so little, and because we're impacted so adversely =- because of the leaders acting for the barons. Little people who want to live for their children - unite. Let's unite together.
