US 'wants British Pakistanis to have entry visas'
Source: The Guardian

The American government wants to impose travel restrictions on British citizens of Pakistani origin because of concerns about terrorism, according to a report today.

In talks with the British government, the US homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff, called for British Pakistanis to apply for a visa before travelling to the US, according to the New York Times.

The newspaper claimed that US officials were concerned about the number of terrorist plots in Britain involving citizens with ties to Pakistan.

It is understood that the British government is resisting any attempts to single out particular ethnic groups for travel restrictions. The Foreign Office has yet to comment on the report.

6. What about Anglo British who were born in Pakistan?
And do potential British Pakistanis need to compare themselves to the color of a brown paper grocery bag to see if they need a special visa?

I'm sure there's bound to be some precedent and case law available on this...maybe from about 150 years ago or so.

8. That makes me sick....
I will contact my MP about this. My government just had better NOT give in to this racist filth. (And it gets so ridiculous; what about those who are of only partly Pakistani origin - at what point does the ethnic targeting end?)

Yes, some of the 7-7 bombers were of Pakistani origin. We've had a lot of terrorism over the years from some people of Irish origin - should they be subject to travel restrictions? Should Americans be targeted as terrorists because of Tim McVeigh?

Aaaaarrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

US denies trying to curb visa waivers for Britons of Pakistani origin

2 hours, 7 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States denied a report Wednesday
that it was seeking to curb a visa waiver program for British citizens
to limit access to the US for Britons of Pakistani origin.

The report by the The New York Times said the US Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) had raised the issue with British officials
due to concern over the number of recent terror plots in Britain
involving people with ties to Pakistan.

"According to everyone I've checked with, including the DHS, there
are no such kinds of discussions ongoing," said State Department
deputy spokesman Tom Casey.

"It is repugnant to the values of this country ... to suggest that
the United States would engage in what, frankly, the way I read
that story, would amount to some form of racial profiling," he
told reporters.

Casey went on to say the the policy is against the U.S. law,
that hasn't stopped the Bush administration in the past.
They tried it. They just got caught. They will approach it
from another angle, such as a very long blacklist.
