Iraqi lawmakers' plans anger Congress By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers divided over whether to keep U.S. troops in Iraq are finding common ground on at least one topic: They are furious that Iraqi politicians are considering a lengthy break this summer.

"If they go off on vacation for two months while our troops fight — that would be the outrage of outrages," said Rep. Chris Shays, R-Conn.

The Iraq parliament's recess, starting this July, would likely come without Baghdad politicians reaching agreements considered key to easing sectarian tensions. Examples include regulating distribution of the country's oil wealth and reversing measures that have excluded many Sunnis from jobs and government positions because of Baath party membership.

Talk of the adjournment comes amid a heated debate in Congress on the pullout of U.S. troops in Iraq.

That is not acceptable," Sen. John Warner (news, bio, voting record), R-Va., said of a two-month recess. "An action of that consequence would send a very bad signal to the world that they don't have the resolve that matches the resolve of the brave troops that are fighting in the battle today."

Added Sen. Ben Nelson (news, bio, voting record), D-Neb: "I certainly hope they're not going to take any sort of recess when the question is whether they're going to make any progress."

3. I certainly don't think our Congress would go on vacation
when the very question of our country's survival was at stake which seems to be the case here.

2. But it's HOT.
You don't want to have a reasoned discussion when you're hot and uncomfortable.

6. Gee...
even the Republics are "outraged" about this. But it won't change their position on supporting the Imperial Chimp's veto of the Iraq spending bill, will it? I'm sure they'll come out with some PRETTY tough language about this......and then forget all about it. Our sons and daughters dying while the Iraqi politicians take a nice vacation. Sound like anyone else we know in OUR country? :grr:

14. Yup...
Score one for the next successful phase: partitioning. (Yugoslavia, Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan)

First you start with a whole continent, and you 'partition' them to make 'nation-states', then when those become unmanageable under a system of global exploitation, violence and theft; you bust them down into smaller manageable pieces that overlap resources pockets.

Then you tell people to forget about the OLD company of nation-state and get them to think about the new company of 'right/left' 'red/blue' 'east/west' 'south/north' 'religious/secular' 'sunni/shia' --whatever works because at that point, the global inheritors of the ancien regime, are simply managing population targets and food distribution.

8. The Green Zone is too damn dangerous in summer.
Between the rocket attacks and suicide bombers, the smart parliamentarian spends the summer in London.

9. Well, here's a thought. We won't fight! We'll fall back to our bases!
Would be a nice test to see if the Iraqis will finally "stand up"

13. If the Iraqi parliament goes on vacation as planned, it should be
an easier sell to the die-hards to bring the troops home immediately. If they don't care about working for their country, why should one more American life be lost? Vacation for the troops.

15. Right. Because we all know our lawmakers never take breaks
:sarcasm: I'm sure most, if not all the members of the Iraqi parliament have lost at least one family member in this war. They deserve a break. This "outrage" represents hypocrisy at it's height.
