Report: V.P. Dick Cheney to Visit Middle East

WASHINGTON -- White House sources confirm that Vice President Dick Cheney will depart for the Middle East on May 8. Cheney is expected to visit Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

The vice president is expected to meet with King Abdullah of Saudia Arabia, President Mubarak of Egypt, King Abdullah of Jordan and President Khalifa of the United Arab Emirates.

Cheney will also confer with military commanders in the Persian Gulf region, the White House said.

Cheney had been dispatched to the region personally by President Bush.
