'Contact lost' with Kenya flight

Kenya Airways says it has lost contact with a Boeing 737-800 airliner
flying to Nairobi from Douala in Cameroon.

The airline says the last message was received by the control tower
in Douala immediately after take-off.

Flight KQ 507 left Douala at 2305 local time (0005 GMT) Friday and
was due to arrive in Nairobi at 0315 GMT.

Kenyan TV said there were 109 people on board but this has not been
confirmed. Kenya Airways says it has set up a crisis management
centre in Embakasi.

2. Oh, no.
In a month or two it will be casually revealed that some high-level anti-imperialist activist, peacemaker, and/or other inconvenience to US "interests" was on board, along with unexplained "anomalies."

I can guarantee it.

By EMMANUEL TUMANJONG, Associated Press Writer 3 minutes ago

YAOUNDE, Cameroon - A Kenya Airways jet with 114 people on board crashed early Saturday after sending out a distress signal over a remote rainforest in southern Cameroon, officials said. Nearby villagers reported hearing a loud boom.

The Nairobi-bound jet went down near the town of Lolodorf, about 155 miles south of the coastal city of Douala, where it had taken off after midnight, said Alex Bayeck, a regional communications officer.

There was no word on survivors, said Bayeck, speaking by telephone en route to the crash site. He said search planes were flying over the forested area where the airliner gave off a distress signal, but no wreckage had been spotted.

Signs of jet downed in Cameroon found By EMMANUEL TUMANJONG, Associated Press Writer

LOLODORF, Cameroon - Signs have been found of a Kenya-bound flight that crashed in Cameroon with 114 people on board, an aviation official said Sunday.

Thomas Sobakam, chief of meteorology for the Doula airport from where the flight took off, refused to describe the signs, but said they were not pieces of wreckage. He said a state radio report that the crash site had been located was premature. He refused further comment, stressing the search for the plane's wreckage continued.

Michael Okwiri, spokesman for Kenya Airways, said officials in Kenya had also received reports the plane had been found, but could not confirm them.

MBANGA PONGO, Cameroon, May 7 (Reuters) - Rescue workers in
Cameroon pulled remains of victims from a fetid swamp on Monday
two days after a Kenya Airways plane crashed, killing all 114
people on board.

The Boeing 737-800 fell into densely forested swampland early on
Saturday minutes after leaving Douala for Nairobi in torrential rain.

"It's devastating. I found one or two whole bodies at the start, but
since then everything is in pieces," said Captain Francis Ekosso of
Cameroon's fire department, who was in charge of the rescue
operation.

The plane was found late on Sunday in a mangrove swamp near
Mbanga Pongo, around 20 km (12 miles) from Douala airport.
