Schumer says Bush veto won't deter Democrats on war strategy
Source: Associated Press

In this week's Democratic radio message, a New York senator says lawmakers are committed to changing U-S policy in Iraq.
Charles Schumer calls on President Bush to work with Democrats on crafting a strategy that would fund U-S troops but also "change the mission" in Iraq. He said President Bush's veto of the 124 (b) billion-dollar spending bill won't deter Democrats from that goal.

Schumer added that American troops need to get out of the business of policing a civil war between Sunni and Shiite Muslims.

Following this week's veto, Bush administration aides have been on Capitol Hill to negotiate with Democratic lawmakers. Those talks are to resume early next week.

2. Bush, Democrats still far apart on Iraq bill
President George W. Bush on Saturday pressed U.S. lawmakers to give him a war-funding bill with "flexibility" while Democrats insisted they would not abandon their effort to force him to change course in Iraq.

The comments suggested entrenched positions four days after Bush vetoed a $124 billion war-spending measure that would have required a troop pullout from Iraq to begin by Oct. 1.

"It's simply not the job of America or our troops to stand in the middle of a civil war as Sunnis and Shi'ites shoot at each other and pay no heed to the central government while our troops are caught in the crosshairs," Schumer said, adding that Democrats would not give up their effort to change Bush's Iraq policy.

"No amount of name calling, hyperbole or imputation that we don't support the troops will deter us from these goals," he said.

4. Bullshit
They are already retreating.

THey could hang this up but won't. They could make a BIG public to do about how it's BUSH who is witholding the funding for the troops. But they aren't.

Instead of calling it a surrender date they should be calling it a victory date. This will be the date we declare victory. We toppled Saddam, installed a Democratic form of Government and now we turn our success over to the Iraqis.

Fat chance.
