Poll: Most Americans expect $4 gasoline
Source: CNN

Almost 80 percent think they will pay that much at the pump this year, and they think it's 'unreasonable'.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- As gasoline prices race past record highs, more than three quarters of Americans think they'll will have to pay over $4 for a gallon this year, according to a poll released Monday.

Seventy-nine percent of people polled said they are either "very likely" or "somewhat likely" to pay over $4 a gallon according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll.

But only a quarter of those surveyed said that gasoline is likely to reach $5 per gallon this year, and only 10 percent said it is very likely.

Compared to other things people buy, 81 percent said gasoline costs are "unreasonable."

1. 35% think it's likely to hit $5.00 an hour?

Sounds like a great poll for big-oil. You have to send up a test balloon to see what people would be willing to pay.

Time to buy a bike.

8. I had a dream
In the dream, it was $6.10 a gallon and the station was empty as were the streets.

9. You know, this would be a great way for Bush to advertise another tax cut.
Since fuel prices are so high, I'm asking Congress to cut taxes to put more money into the pockets of everyday Americans.

Which of course is a great way to keep oil money flowing, while doing nothing for large portions of the population.

10. "Time to buy a bike"
I've got my eye on this Electra:

Electra Bicycle Company Coaster 7

Just need to come up with the $320 to buy it and then it's "bye-bye" (almost) to Big Oil!

12. The roads here are still too dangerous for bikes.
Gas goes much higher, and we might just see that change.

I live in the land of SUVs and Pick-up Trucks. The ones with 6 wheels, and extended side view mirrors. It worries me when I drive behind them, because I can see how closely they drive to people who are brave enough to still ride a bike out there.

5. Most didn't. The votes just got mis-counted that way
It was a coup and profit was the motive.

6. Are these people nuts? If you say you "expect" $4 gas,
well greedy oil will give it to you.

I can remember when gas was 39 cents a gallon. I would expect prices to move more towards 39 cents if this government put price controls on oil/gas.

14. I expect this article is a plant by BigOil
Their people are out there pushing the idea of big pump prices and then they get papers to print stories about how people expect big pump prices.

All part of their plan to make sure they deliver nice hefty dividends to shareholders.

16. Oil shiek needs a new jet.
After all, how on earth is he going to fit his entourage into a mere 767? He's got to upgrade to an A380. Life's so rough for him, so we've gotta make sacrifices.

17. I EXPECT they won't change their ways much
I cannot understand this lazy mentality of "expecting that they will pay" ...why pay that? Walk more, you might lose some pounds...swallow your car pride and take mass transit if available, it won't kill you and I promise I won't tell anyone I saw you doing it. Setting aside all of those that depend on their cars to get to work and make a living....Get out of the car!
