Canada protests ban on women at Saudi exhibition

Mon May 7, 11:50 AM ET

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi organizers of an education exhibition in the conservative kingdom closed a Canadian booth because it was staffed by women, Canada's embassy in Riyadh said on Monday.

They said organizers had said that women would be allowed to staff the booth promoting Canadian universities at a Middle East Education and Training Exhibition in the city of Jeddah last week.

"The closure of our booth was an unjustified, unprofessional act that damages the image of Saudi Arabia internationally," a statement issued over the weekend said.

"Prior to the event, we specifically inquired whether women staff would be permitted at the Exhibition and were told by the organizers, the Al Harithy Company, that they would."

1. They hate women, they hate women here, they hate women everywhere.
And we hate them back.

stone them to death, or make them wear covers from head to toe.

Our problem is women aren't willing to give men back what men give them.

Not that I condone violence. But some men will never learn unless the same rules are imposed on them.

3. Interesting
You see, the Saudi royal family dances an interesting dance with the fundamentalists in their country--sort of yes, have a repressive Wahhbist society in exchange for not trying to overthrow us....and you realize that many of the royals don't exactly practice the Wabbi way--gold jewelry, wearing silk, dancing, drinking alcohol, etc.

The fact that they first said ok to the Canadians and then backed down indicates some pressure from the mullahs. And this was an easy way to bow to that pressure.

I'm curious ....
Are saudi women even allowed to attend the "education exhibition"? :o

If so .... what's the problem? Afraid they might learn something about the role of women in the outside world?

Sad! :eyes:
