Extremist taunts his victims from prison
By JAY REEVES, Associated Press Writer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Victims of Eric Rudolph, the anti-abortion extremist who pulled off a series of bombings across the South, say he is taunting them from deep within the nation's most secure federal prison, and authorities say there is little they can do to stop him.

Rudolph, who was captured after a five-year manhunt and pleaded guilty in deadly bombings at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and a Birmingham abortion clinic, is serving life in prison at the "Supermax" penitentiary in Florence, Colo.

Housed in the most secure part of the prison, he has no computer and little contact with the outside world aside from writing letters.

But Rudolph's long essays have been posted on the Internet by a supporter who maintains an Army of God Web site. The Army of God is the same loose-knit group that Rudolph claimed to represent in letters sent after the blasts.

2. Hey Eric, I bet you're very popular in the prison shower room.
How's that for a taunt?

3. Pretty shabby. He's in solitary confinement 24/7
Even when he is in the exercise yard, he is in a cage by himself. He can just see another inmate or two.

It is indeed an argument for the death penalty when someone acts in such a manner, and I oppose it most vehemently.

7. Actually, he doesn't get to leave his cell for showers
Three times a week they wheel a portable shower stall up the corridor that seals to the cell door.

5. Provide him with smaller stationery. I'm sure there are no rules for how large it must be...
Just give him those little cards you get when you buy flowers.

8. Glad the "media" has decided to aid this terrorist in his taunting.
I'm sure his victims don't frequent the Army of God web site, but this bit of news surely will stir some diligent reporter to dig up victims and victim's families, oh, and victim's neighbors to ask them how they feel about this. Then his taunting will be complete.

11. So he's a terrorist?
I heard a rumor that they have a special facility for terrorists about 90 miles south of Key West, why isn't he there? I am sure a transfer could be arranged.

13. you'd have to get to the guards, not the other inmates, he's in a supermax
so if it's going like it's supposed to, he has no contact with other inmates.

My knowledge of prisons is thankfully third or more hand.
If it is that deep a hole, how is it that they let him practice terrorism from his cell?

18. well, I only know about supermax thanks to a Harpers magazine info graphic so...
it sounds like he's writing letters to a guy who's posting them to a website. Maybe, maybe it's harassment, but as much as I don't care for the prisoner, it's not terrorism. Might be 'terroristic threats' or whatever such statute applies, but they'll need to find a rare DA to bring the charges. I would hope that this "army of god" is under close watch...

16. Gotta leave it to the Associated Press. This man's a killer, a bomber,
a terrorist, and a general asshole. AP calls him an "extremist!"

Take Cuban "exile" airliner bomber/mass murderer, hotel bomber, assassin, clown, CIA agent, Iran/Contra operative, notorious asshole, Luis Posada Carriles. Please! AP calls him a "militant."

Oh, yeah, an extremist, and a militant. They're both right wingers, of course. Need anyone say more?
