1. link:Plane goes down in southeastern Kentucky
A plane has gone down in the Granny Rose Hollow area of southeastern Kentucky Tuesday afternoon.

It is possible it is a military plane, although 10 News has yet to confirm this early report.

We have a crew en route to the scene and will have more details on this developing story as they become available.

3. Kentucky is home to Fort Campell 101st Airborne
Hopefully this C130 wasn't filled on a training mission with paratroopers.

5. 101st doesn't jump anymore- not since Vietnam.
They are "air assault" now, aka helicopters. They do have a special forces group based there so it is possible but not probable.

6. 101st is not an airborne unit
They are an air mobile unit. They fly in helicopters. The airborne designation is to honor the exploits of the division during WWII

'Large, Green' Plane Crashed In Whitley County

POSTED: 4:51 pm EDT May 15, 2007
UPDATED: 6:07 pm EDT May 15, 2007

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Whitley County dispatchers have confirmed that a plane has crashed near Highway 60, close to the town of Woodbine.

Knox County sheriff's dispatch supervisor Denise Crawford said the department had received several reports of a plane down and smoke in a wooded area. Fire and law enforcement officers headed to the scene, but she could not confirm a crash.

According to a reporter at the Corbin Times-Tribune, a large, green plane with black writing was seen smoking and crashing into the trees late Tuesday afternoon. Kentucky State Police confirmed they were searching for a plane crash site at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Capt. Dale Greer, public affairs officer with 123rd Airlift Wing of the Kentucky Air National Guard said it was not a plane from the wing. "It's not one of our aircraft," Greer said. He had no other information.

Jumping out of a C-130 is very nice because they go so slow. I love those babies. The pilots call them "garbage cans" because of all the different stuff they haul.
