(Specter) GOP Senator Predicts Gonzales Will Quit
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee predicted Thursday that the probe of firings of federal prosecutors would lead to the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The Justice Department, according to veteran Sen. Arlen Specter, can't properly protect the nation from terrorism or oversee President Bush's no-warrant eavesdropping program with Gonzales at the helm.

"I have a sense that when we finish our investigation, we may have the conclusion of the tenure of the attorney general," Specter, R-Pa., said during a committee hearing. "I think when our investigation is concluded, it'll be clear even to the attorney general and the president that we're looking at a dysfunctional department which is vital to the national welfare."

His comment echoed new criticism of the attorney general this week. Former deputy attorney general James Comey testified that Gonzales tried to get his predecessor as attorney general, John Ashcroft, to approve Bush's eavesdropping program as Ashcroft lay in intensive care.

1. not until the Chimp turns against him
and I don't think that's likely to happen.

Bush has stood by his longtime friend and adviser, the key to Gonzales' hold on his job.

None of these bastards ever will admit to anything and therefore will never resign. It's too much like an admission of guilt. They thumb their noses as us and keep going.

4. Uhm, and if he doesn't quit, Mr. Specter?
Do you have a Plan B? Would you endorse his impeachment and removal from office? Does he have to leave by Memorial Day? Independence Day? Labor Day? Christmas? Inauguration Day 2009?

Because if Gonzales doesn't have a deadline by which you'll begin proceedings to remove him from office, this is just more of your typical grandstanding, appearing to be a reasonable politician when you're actually nothing of the sort. And as usual, when the issue comes to the point, you'll scurry back under the protective shadow of the GOP Elephant, and place party loyalty above every other consideration.

You're a nauseating little man, Mr. Specter.

10. Abu won't quit...
His replacement will need Senate confirmation. Anybody confirmable by the Senate would have SOME allegiance to the law.

If that happens, the whole House of Card(s) comes down.
