No regrets for Bush and Blair

by Jitendra Joshi Fri May 18, 12:59 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister
Tony Blair were defiant to the last over a war that sank their political fortunes, as they staged a White House swansong for their tumultuous double-act Thursday.

Heaping fulsome praise on each other, the two leaders said history would be the judge of their decision to invade Iraq in search of elusive weapons of mass destruction and to topple Saddam Hussein's regime.................

Blair said that Britain under his successor, Treasury chief Gordon Brown, would remain "a staunch and steadfast ally" of the United States "in the fight against terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere."

Turning to Bush, he said: "You have been a strong leader at a time when the world needed strong leadership."

5. Why should they have regrets? They're set for life!
Sure, it sucks to be one of the 3,000 or so dead soldiers, the 15,000 or so maimed soldiers, or the countless hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis or Afghans, but damn, you should see how Bush's and Blair's personal net worth has skyrocketed over the last four or five years. And with the corporate sinecures beckoning as soon as they each leave office, they'll be rolling in dough while you lot are planting flowers on graves and crying your bitter, useless tears.

Who has time for regret, unless it's widows and orphans?

7. Tony Blair
has a cushy chair with the Carlyle Group, like his predecessors, Thatcher and Major, or something equivalent, you can be sure. As for Bush what is a little impeachment compared to the wealth he's made for the Bush dynasty from the trillions extorted from taxpayers given him by the rubber stamp Congress. Same for Gonzo and Condiliar.

8. Well, no one will regret them much...
Blair's fawning over Bush being a 'strong leader' reminds me of a friend's comment on people who said the same of Thatcher: "Well, you can have a strong horse, and it can still pull you off the edge of a cliff".
