White House: Anti-Gonzales vote a stunt
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Friday called the Senate's upcoming no-confidence vote over Attorney General Alberto Gonzales a "political stunt."

President Bush's support for his longtime ally and friend will not waver, said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.

...

"We would consider it another political stunt," Fratto said.

He also said Gonzales does not necessarily need Congress' support to continue serving.

"It's important for any public official to have as much confidence as he can garner and it will ebb and flow," Fratto said. "But it will not ebb and flow with this president and this attorney general."

39. Setting the Lunch Table for Impeachment. Or, "POTUS, the Felons, Way, Way Worse ...
They should get up on Monday morning early, and have them both impeached by lunchtime, then have President Nancy Pelosi serve tea in the White House before dinner.

When is it time to set the table? When the People are hungry.
Juicy tidbits and rumblings this week are causing reasonable salivations, and like never before.

Let's consider Two Really, Really BIG BREAK-INS, and their comparison to the Watergate Break-In, just to see is setting the Monday lunch table seems warranted.

Break-in #1.) Republican operatives are given a contract (within the context of a bribe scheme to get the contract) to set up an IT network for Congress. They set it up so they subsequently intercept all the Democratic communications of the Committees investigating them, principally Leahy's Judiciary committee.

Break-in #2.) Bush illegally, and with advice in hand as to the illegality from his Attorney General and Acting Attorney General, goes ahead nonetheless with spying on a multitude of American citizens in the run-up to the 2004 election. Do I have to mention they are spying on "Democrats"? (At this point in the political timeline, I hope not.)

Now the comparison of the scenarios posited:

#1. The RNC hires a bozo crew of rogue CIA bunglers who get caught trying to place bugs in a one political office, DNC HQ.

OR

#2. The President of the USA and corrupt, bribe-paying operatives actually DO intercept ALL communications of all sorts of people investigating them and running against them just before the 2004 elections, including carrying out their scheme in the very Halls of Congress.

I call this menu, "POTUS, the Felons, Waaaa-aay Worse than Watergate, and Who Haven't They Bugged?"

For a reservation, e-mail the Speaker of the House. I'm betting even Honorable Speaker Pelosi is having a difficult time resisting the menu now.

It will be very interesting to see who's heads ends up on a platter next week.

In flights suits, after all of them flying in, with big banners in the background, and stuff. THEN you would have a "political stunt".

7. Want an example of a political stunt?
Edited on Fri May-18-07 10:26 AM by AndyA
Here's a few:

Bush's staged Teleconference with the Soldiers

Bushes dancing with a bunch of dark skinned people to prove their support of diversity

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaORVHigg4o

Grief stricken at Mrs. King's funeral

And last but not least, the biggest stunt of them all:

You want to talk about political stunts? How about the pot calling the kettle black? The HO calling the cleaning lady cheap? If you're talking about political stunts, THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WROTE THE BOOK.

The Pig Bush has DESTROYED any cachet the White House had as an institution to be respected. It will take at least one and maybe two GOOD and HONORABLE administrations to cure that.

Fat chance.

10. The White House is in free-fall.
We're all waiting for the "splat!" It may seem to be taking a while, but when you're plummeting from such a great height, it takes a bit longer, even once you've hit terminal velocity.

Not even a net will save them at that speed, so be of good cheer, y'all. The longer it takes, the bigger the puddle will be.

Which vote should have been on the aircraft carrier? Last year's or this 'new' vote...?

Wonder which way they will vote again in the Fall, when they return from summer vacation and they've talked to their constituents. :eyes:

He also said Gonzales does not necessarily need Congress' support to continue serving.

Probably right...since he already had it.

. . .but fear they actually think that the vote will accomplish something. Just as they think that "exposing" bush's crimes, in and of itself, is accomplishing something. I fear they remain blind to the reality that "exposure" without impeachment is meaningless to these thugs.

25. For once the White House is right, this is a bullshit PR stunt!
We don't have a parliamentary system in which a "no-confidence" vote would bring down a government. This is nothing but a bullshit PR stunt that says more about the Democrats' ineptitude and cowardice in the face of an open challenge to Congress and the Separation of Powers.

The Constitution is quite clear as to what to do about a lawless public official: IMPEACHMENT!

I can see Pelosi and Reed passing a meaningless "no confidence" resolution on Richard Nixon for his Watergate crimes.

They must allow for impeachment of Gonzo and Cheney.

When it comes to the war, Democrats don't have to do a goddamned thing to end it. Do nothing, and let the money run out!

Sure, if "no confidence" were the only action available to them, I'd be appauding. If all you have is a peashooter, you fight with a peashotoer. But they have a big gun. I'd take the impeachment of Gonzales -- at least that would remind them that they CAN impeach officials. But the only way to rescue the Constitution is to impeach Bush and Cheney. Screw the little fish. Take out the unitary executivecy. Fire and prosecute their co-conspirators and minions.

-... "According to Sigmund Freud, projection is a psychological defense mechanism whereby one "projects" one's own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings onto someone else."

37. like "rescuing" NO 4 days after Katrina wasn't a stunt?
never forget how food and aid were deliberately withheld until AFTER the smarmy little dick-head finally got around to "acting prezidenshul" by "giving a speech" after who knows how many had already drowned in their attics, starved to death, or otherwise suffered horribly for no good reason. THEN things "started to happen," as though he was "in charge."

and don't forget how the clueless dwarf (absolutely NO malice intended toward dwarfs! "mental dwarf" is understood!) posed with two looters ... er, "victims" ... wearing blindingly white sneakers and dragged an entourage around staging photo ops instead of actually supplying anybody with anything crucial like food and water.

the pathetic thing is that, yes, some voters are just too irretrievably STUPID not to have seen it: a LTTE of the Gainesville (Florida) Sun actually expressed relief that (paraphrasing) "finally a real leader took charge" and relief started happening -- some such unbelievably DUMB thing.

Hey Photo-Op "president"--I got yer political stunts right here, fuckwit! :grr:
