Poll: Three out of four Americans discontented
Source: USAToday.COM

WASHINGTON (AP) — It's gloomy out there. Men and women, whites and minorities — all are feeling a war-weary pessimism about the country seldom shared by so many people.
Only 25% of those surveyed say things in the U.S. are going in the right direction, according to an AP-Ipsos poll this month. That is about the lowest level of satisfaction detected since the survey started in December 2003.

Rarely have longer-running polls found such a rate since the even gloomier days of 1992 ahead of the first President Bush's re-election loss to Democrat Bill Clinton.

The current glumness is widely blamed on public discontent with the war in Iraq and with President Bush. It is striking for how widespread the mood is among different groups of people.

I find it rather humorous that there hasn't been this much discontent since...... the Daddy Bush administration. Pretty striking if you ask me.

1. One poster doesn't think things are bad
Doesn't seem like anyone is buying into his crap as his comments are the only ones not recommended.

2. Did anyone get the fake Jay Leno email to forward to everyone.
The one that talks about the "alleged" 67% reported in Time to be unhappy with the direction of the country. Basically a right wing "don't worry, be happy" message. Snopes.com has it in their top 10 urban myths. Only the closing line of the whole thing is actually from Leno.

5. I received it last week--
--and sent back a blistering response to the distribution list, pointing out that it's just another apologia for Bush's unpopularity and incompetence a la Glorious Leader is not to blame for the mood in the nation, it's all the fault of us ingrate Americans. A couple of folks answered me back saying they didn't care if Jay Leno wrote it or not, they still agreed with the sentiments. Good grief.:banghead::banghead:

3. But I thought Bush/Cheney had a mandate?
What happened to all those idiots who voted for them?

As many DU'ers said after the election, we didn't care if the idiots who voted for them suffered, but why did we have to suffer also?

Bring back the Clinton years!

6. As long as the DOW goes up
I'm happy because it inflates my stock portfolio too.

But that's just me, speaking for myself only. Although morally I'm anti-war and disgusted by this Iraq war.

7. I want to ask that 25%...
"Are you rich or stupid?"

Those are the only two possible conditions that would make you satisfied with this country today.

I know that 25% of this country isn't rich, so ..........

9. I was gonna say you forgot an R.
I was thinking it should read "The Republicans, the rich, and the retarded."

Then I realized that I know an awful lot of Republicans who are pissed off too.

10. another "well, duhhhh" moment
well, duh people are honked off...

-gas prices are going up, as are the prices of all things transported (like food)
-incomes Are Not Going Up, so there is a net loss for all those who actually work for a living, or depend on SS, SSDI, or SSI.
-the "idjets" in power have the military bogged down overseas in an imperial land grab, which is failing, and breaking the military at the same time
-the country has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese, by virtue of the trade imbalance

...just what the hell is there to be optimistic about? Huh?

11. Remember this next time someone complains about 2000 or 2004
"Rarely have longer-running polls found such a rate since the even gloomier days of 1992 ahead of the first President Bush's re-election loss to Democrat Bill Clinton."

1992 was much much easier.
