Time to grow up, Obama tells SNHU grads

Manchester – Taking on the many challenges facing this nation is your responsibility, Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama told about 1,000 Southern New Hampshire University graduates yesterday, and meeting those challenges will require more than a college degree.

"So much depends on the decisions that are made -- and the leadership that is provided by -- this generation," Obama said during his commencement address before a total gathering of about 7,700 at Verizon Wireless Arena.

"We are counting on you to help fix a health care system that's leaving too many Americans sick or bankrupt or both. We are counting on you to bring this planet back from the brink by solving this crisis of global climate change. We are counting on you to help stop a genocide in Darfur that's taking the lives of innocents as we speak here today. And we're counting on you to restore the image of America around the world."

2. It's not on campus

SNHU has a 2,000 seat field house, which is far too small for a convocation ceremony. The Verizon is the 10,000 seat sports arena in downtown Manchester, about 6 miles south of the SNHU campus. Normally, it's used for pro hockey and arena football.
