Michael Moore attacks Sweden's healthcare reforms
Source: The Local Europe AB

Filmmaker Michael Moore has attacked the Swedish government for opening up the health service to more private sector involvement.

Moore, known for his campaigning left-wing film projects such as Bowling for Columbine, made the comments to Swedish news agency TT Spektra from the Cannes Film Festival.

"I am very sorry to hear that they are selling out public healthcare. Everything that is good about public healthcare has its origins in Scandinavia," he said, adding that he thought the Swedish public would vote the centre -right Alliance government out as a result.

"If you sell out the healthcare system in Sweden, you attack the core of everything that has to do with free healthcare," he continued.

2. Key -snip-:
"Michael Moore is wrong in this. We are not introducing an American system," he said.

Moore's comments refer to the Swedish government's plans to scrap a law banning local authorities from outsourcing the running of major hospitals to the private sector. Sweden's previous Social Democratic government had introduced the ban, also banning companies running smaller hospitals from making profits or treating private patients.

6. you can bet that there are plenty of Swedes who are cheering Moore on
My friends over there are alarmed about privatization. Just as many Canadians agreed with Al Gore when he said that the Canadian right-wing government's climate plan was "a fraud". Gore and Moore both know how to differentiate between ideologically-motivated policies, and the wishes of a country's people -- as opposed to Buchanan and Phelps, who rant about Canadians and Scandinavians "going to hell" because we are "too permissive".

5. Sweden Has Its Own Libertarian Style Movement
They are the people who were born on third base and think they hit a triple, think of themselves as self-made men (and they are men, because there's no country in this world where women are so insulated from reality as to think they weren't lucky not to be on the bottom in all ways on all things) despite the fact that they were never in danger of lacking food, shelter, health care, basic income, education, and opportunity.

They bitch about paying "too much taxes" never counting what they get for the privilege of being in a position to be able to pay taxes, and still have vacations, health care, college for their children, etc. They're just miffed that they can't buy an island in the Mediterranean, or a private jet, or a condo in Manhattan, or some other jet-set goodie.

These people should come back as McDonald's employees in their next life.

8. I have relatives in Sweden
and I am amazed at some who think reduce taxes. At leaast in Sweden, you get something for your taxes. The same want to come to U$ to visit and work (they have US citizenship through my sister). Will be interesting if In-law becomes pregnant and it costs at least $10,000 to have a baby, in Sweden they give you care and a bonus.

11. Let's start a citizenship exchange program, then.
If they don't know what they have, I'm up for a trade. Seriously.

10. "there's no country in this world where women are so insulated from reality ..."
Two words: Margaret Thatcher.

There is nothing inherent in womanhood that guarantees immunity from selling out to the Dark Side. Only a strongly developed personhood can do that.

9. Canadian media needle Sicko
Michael Moore is handing out fake bandages to promote his new film Sicko, an exposé of the failings of the U.S. health care system.

But he may feel like applying a couple to himself after the mauling he received yesterday from several Canadian journalists – present company included – following the film's first viewing at the Cannes Film Festival.

"You Canadians! You used to be so funny!" an exasperated Moore said at a press conference in the Palais des Festivals.

"You gave us all our best comedians. When did you turn so dark?"
