BP closes Alaskan oil field for 'few days'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- BP said Tuesday that it will shut down 100,000 barrels a day of its Alaskan oil production for a "few days" after discovering a water pipeline leak Monday at Prudhoe Bay.

Analysts said the temporary loss of output should not have a dramatic impact on world oil markets, but with crude futures trading near $66 a barrel, any snag in the industry tends to make energy traders jittery.

Light sweet crude for June delivery fell 32 cents to $65.95 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

London-based BP said the leak was discoveerd in a 12-inch pipe that collects water separated from the oil and gas it produces.

1. Yep, shut it down for a few days
and raise prices of gas to $4.00/gallon by Memorial Day weekend. And the following Tuesday, the oil field will miraculously be "healed". And I am not normally a conspiracy type, but this just seems too damn convenient.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- BP Plc confirmed Tuesday that 100,000 barrels a day of production is offline at its massive Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, oil field due to a produced water piping leak discovered early Monday morning.

Gathering Center 2 in the Western Operating Area of Prudhoe Bay is expected to be down "for a few days," BP spokesman Neil Chapman said in a statement. BP is putting together inspection and repair plans, he said.

5. Within the last two months, BP has come to NW Arkansas and have the
highest prices in town. They replaced all of the Citgo stations.

6. If I were queen of the usa
I would be conserving what oil we have left in this country. It would be nationalized in a heartbeat.
If we have reached or are near reaching peak oil, we should ensure that we have as much supply to be used wisely an frugally to transition to different fuels, conservation, improving mass transit ,etc as possible. But that is just me.

If price of gas was $2.50 it would cost me about $50

DAMN

If my gas mileage was 20MPG or less it would cost me over $100

Thank goodness I get good gas mileage.
