Iran detains fourth Iranian American

WASHINGTON, May 23 (Reuters) - Iran has imprisoned an Iranian American affiliated with George Soros' Open Society Institute, the private foundation said on Wednesday.

The man, Kian Tajbakhsh, is the fourth dual U.S. and Iranian citizen to have been prevented from leaving Iran in recent months in what appears to be an accelerating crackdown by Tehran against Iranian Americans.

The New York-based Open Society Institute, a foundation that promotes democratic governance and human rights, said Tajbakhsh had been imprisoned in Iran around May 11.

"He is in prison," said Laura Silber, a spokeswoman for the foundation said. News of his detention was first reported by the Washington Post.

Look what's happened. Now Iran can point to Burns' words on behalf of the State Department and say, 'Now why would the American government be sponsoring your efforts? Surely it is not for the prolonged health of the government of Iran?'

Or maybe Burns wanted to provoke exactly this and innocent people are paying the price.
