US forces find Iranian money in Baghdad raid
Source: AFP

BAGHDAD (AFP) - US forces have killed two gunmen and discovered a large amount of Iranian currency and bomb-making materials in a raid on the Baghdad Shiite neighbourhood of Sadr City on Wednesday.

US troops searched 11 buildings during the raid in search of a cell involved in importing weapons from Iran into Baghdad and southeastern Iraq.

"As they continued to search the buildings, coalition forces found a large quantity of Iranian money, more than 6,000 dollars in US money and improvised explosive device-making materials," said the statement.

During the search US forces came under attack from four gunmen and confirmed killing two of them. Washington has repeatedly accused Iran of funding armed groups in Iraq and trying to distabilise the country, a charge it has denied.

On May 28, the US and Iranian ambassadors to Iraq will meet to discuss their respective policies in the war torn country.

1. Of COURSE they did!
Probably some maps, too, from Tehran to Baghdad with notes saying "Let's kill all the Americans." In English, no doubt.

3. Please, you can buy Iranian rials on Ebay
Got one of the 10,000 notes myself with the neat nuclear symbol on the back, to collect.

*Agent Mike: I work in export/imports and am fully aware of Dept. Commerce regs regarding trade with Iran. The money was bought from a currency dealer in CA, USA, in good faith. And, STFU*

8. Oh dear, better go check my old belly dancing coin belt for Iranian coins
I set there are some there. Yup, some with arabic writing, they have to be Iranian. Dang, I guess I was supporting the bad guys 30 yrs ago. Better go destroy the evidence before anyone notices.

Agent Mike: I bought this belt from a company in California 30 yrs ago, it has coins from all over the world. The Australian ones are very neat as are the Chinese ones with square holes. If anyone can see what is imprinted on any coins, I'm not shaking my hips fast enough. Sincerely, middle aged dancer.

6. "Iraqi Terrorists Funded By US"
US forces have killed two gunmen and discovered a large amount of Iranian currency and bomb-making materials in a raid on the Baghdad Shiite neighbourhood of Sadr City on Wednesday.

"As they continued to search the buildings, coalition forces found more than 6,000 dollars in US money, a large quantity of Iranian money and improvised explosive device-making materials," said the statement.

Why not that headline? As the largest US naval task force since the beginning of the war moves into the Gulf.

"Along with the former Iraqi dictator, troops discovered $750,000 cash in $100 bills, two AK-47 machine guns and a briefcase of documents."

13. What's that "large quantity"?
Would $6000 USD be considered a "large quantity" of American money?
Why don't they provide the worth of the Iranian money they found?
Could it be because it was worth less than those dollars, but they don't want to admit that?

A quick google of any other news items on this all list the "large quantity" in quotes, but go no further.

Jeez, these people are grasping at straws, aren't they?

15. LMAO. The propaganda becomes more transparent every day.
I'm surprised the assholes didn't have the nerve to plant WMD. I imagine they know they would have been caught doing that, but this kind of stuff they can get away with. Maybe someone can tell me why Iran would send Iranian currency into Iraq to support terrorists. Is there something I'm missing here? Iran has access to all the US dollars it wants. IMO, this is just BS for the gullible Faux News watchers.

16. What a farce.
Fry: Uh, just so we'll know, who's the enemy?

Zapp: A valid question. We know nothing about their language, their history or what they look like. But we can assume this: They stand for everything we don't stand for. Also, they told me you guys look like dorks.

Bender: They look like dorks!
