(Sen) Schumer undergoing treatment for Lyme disease
Source: Politics on the Hudson

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. is undergoing a 21-day treatment of antibiotics for Lyme disease.

Schumer said in an interview he thinks he contracted it from a tick that attached itself to his left leg while he was conducting a series of news conferences on dangerous dams in the Hudson Valley earlier this month.

In the wake of recent flooding from heavy rain that has filled area reservoirs, Schumer visited the Veterans’ Memorial Lake Dam on Gypsy Trail Road in Putnam County, the Whaley Lake Dam in Dutchess County and Beaver Dam in Orange County with Rep. John Hall, D-Dover Plains, to highlight legislation that would provide money for conducting safety assessments and an upgrade of the aging dams.

Although Schumer wore a suit during the May 7 news conferences, a tick apparently climbed up the sock on the Brooklyn lawmaker’s left leg and picked a location below his knee to engorge itself.

2. Wow, best wishes to him
That can be a horrible thing to battle . . . friend of ours suffered for years as he battled Lyme (also from a tick) and eventually ended up in a hyperbaric (sp?) chamber.

5. I think that Lyme Disease can be treatable if you get on it.
It's only a major problem if you don't diagnose it or don't treat it (no health care, etc).

6. I don't see the humor in the above replies.
Lyme disease is a serious problem, and this area is *the* hotspot in the nation for it. I'm glad he's getting aggressive treatment for it.

8. Lyme disease can be very debilitating
That's why I stay indoors! (Seriously, I am allergic to the antibiotic that is used to treat Lyme so if I get it, I'm in trouble. )

I do take tick precuations- tucked in clothes, light colors (so you can see them) long sleeves- so it's too hot so I stay in the air conditioning! Much more comfy!
