Obama answers GOP criticism of his vote on war funding bill |
|
Source: Chicago Tribune--- "The way that we are going to show that we support the troops is by some of them home," the Illinois Democrat told an international convention of more than 1,200 members of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. "That's our message to George Bush. That's our message to John McCain. That's our message to Mitt Romney. That's our message to the Republicans in Congress. It is time to bring this war to a close."
---
"I was very disappointed to see Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton embrace the policy of surrender by voting against funds to support our brave men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan," McCain said in a Friday statement. "This vote may win favor with MoveOn and liberal primary voters, but it's the equivalent of waving a white flag to Al Qaeda."
Obama, meanwhile, pointed to the high level of security McCain needed for his recent visit to Iraq.
"Sen. McCain required a flak jacket, 10 armored Humvees, two Apache attack helicopters, 100 soldiers with rifles by his side, so he could stroll through the market in Baghdad just a few weeks ago for a photo op," Obama said. "That's the truth in Iraq. The truth is this war has cost us thousands of lives and made us less safe."

2. Are they aware that Obama didn't support the war to begin with? |

5. McCain's walking thin ice with the public that wants and end to this war by |
|
labeling them as "liberals". Them's fightin' words to a lot of Republicans that I know, and all of the ones I know (quite a few, I'm in a very red county) wanted to see an end to this war - they liked timetables and benchmarks.
This vote may win favor with MoveOn and liberal primary voters

6. "...is by *starting to bring* some of them home." Just so the sentence makes sense. |
|
Guess the brackets screwed up the copy/paste.

8. Republicans abuse the English language |
|
surrender - cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority from the Oxford English Dictionary
The government of Iraq is not our enemy and the US will not submit to any other authority.
It's not a surrender. Period.
Why doesn't anyone ever call them on this bullsh#t?

10. McCain is wrong. I am an independent.... |
|
True, I used to be a Dem, and I typically (though not always) vote Democratic.
But this war in Iraq is a mess. A pure-D nightmare.
Although independents aren't a cohesive group, I believe most independents think as I do, which is .... I don't know what should be done; I don't think anyone else knows what should be done; I don't think pretty much any vote voting for us not to continue the war is a mistake, or at least I won't hold it against anyone, because...what's the alternative? There are no good alternatives. I want something done. I just don't know what that something is...except it shouldn't continue to be more of the same, which seems to be Bush's plan.
I could be wrong, but I don't think any Democratic or third party politician will be harmed in the votes category by any vote against continuing the war "as is," or by any vote which tries to extricate us in a reasonable way. Such votes would hurt Republican candidates, though, since the majority of Republicans are still with Bush, I think.
