Lawyer: Cheney visitor logs not recorded

By PETE YOST
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — A lawyer for Vice President Dick Cheney told
the Secret Service in September to eliminate data on who visited
Cheney at his official residence, a newly disclosed letter states.

The Sept. 13, 2006, letter from Cheney’s lawyer says logs for
Cheney’s residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory are
subject to the Presidential Records Act.

Such a designation prevents the public from learning who visited
the vice president.

They're the ones that actually create policy.

They do it in secret and apparently we don't need to know about anything.

I forget how much, but I think it's in the neighborhood of a million bucks per year.

18. Why should he?
He is busy doing Halliburton Business, who has time to mind the shop operations. Plus can you even imagine the list of unsavory characters whom must darken his doorway. Creepy. Yeah, he's runnin' his own business and we can just mind ours. If he were ever to be fully given oversight, I'll wager he never does any actual Washington duties. He's busing using the second highest office in the land to secure mighty no-bid contracts for GOP loyalist Companies. Betcha! A million dollars. George is just his Ass puppet. And is that hand ever up there high.

20. What a joke, Presidential Papers Act doesn't lock papers up it demands the release of them
It states all Presidential records must be released after twelve years after that President leaves office but may be released eight years after leaving office but Bush* re-wrote Congressional Law by Decree so he wouldn't have to release any of Reagan's or his father's papers. It does not say papers can not be released. Especially if subpoenaed.

26. Wrong, that was one of *'s first executive orders, to kill the release of St. Ronnie's papers
Edited on Tue May-29-07 10:02 PM by Thor_MN
If St. Ronnie's and Poppie's papers were released, think of all the damage to the GOP. * had to reverse all the Post Nixon legislation as quickly as he could.

I would like to see a Constitutional Amendment mandating the conservation of and release in 8 years of all Presidential documents. Preferably with language to prevent executive ordering loopholes around the clear intent of the legislation.

The American President should govern with the knowledge that all secrets will be revealed, probably within their lifespan.

25. Remember That Truck?
Wasn't it around the time of this letter that a large transport truck was seen backed up to cheney's house for a couple of days? It got very little coverage, but I remember thinking that this can't be good - or legal. I doubt it was stuff for Goodwill being removed from the premises.

38. And the Secret Service did it? Just like that? Without getting...
approval from some governmental authority? Oh, wait...they would ask approval from......the U.S. Attorney!

Rove widened the records to be incl. in the Pres. Records to include wider than the records historically included. How he got away with it boggles my mind. Aren't the kinds of records to be included listed in some law somewhere? If not, why not?

And if the visitor records are part of the Pres. Records, why would they be deleted or "unrecorded"? They should be especially recorded, right? Just not available to the public.

I would say I'd like Congress to correct some of this records manipulation, but it doesn't look like the Dems have enough votes to do it.

They haven't got enough spine to do it either.
