(Sen.) DeMint rips war ‘wimps’ (blames Dems for American casualties in Iraq)

Defeatist Democrats such as Harry Reid share blame for Iraq war deaths, senator tells Upstate constituents

SPARTANBURG — Sen. Jim DeMint on Tuesday blamed Democratic “wimps” in Congress for American casualties in Iraq, and cited Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for special censure.

During a luncheon speech to 100 constituents in Spartanburg, DeMint also took issue with the now widespread belief that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction, saying the executed Iraqi dictator had “stockpiles of chemical weapons” that still exist.

DeMint devoted most of his comments to the current immigration debate in the Senate. But he spoke about the war when a woman in the audience stood and asked him how long U.S. troops will remain in Iraq.

“Al-Qaida knows that we’ve got a lot of wimps in Congress,” DeMint said. “I believe a lot of the casualties can be laid at the feet of all the talk in Congress about how we’ve got to get out, we’ve got to cut and run.”

2. See, Harry? Get it now, Nancy?
It doesn't matter how you vote on the supplemental funding bill. They're gonna call you wimps anyway. The problem is that now a lot of people will agree with them.

Hope you're happy.

3. So.... the casualties
are not because we have troops in Iraq?

Here's a money saving idea Senator DeMinto, why don't you just get your Democrat colleagues to shoot the soldiers themselves? That way they don't even have to go over there and you'll still get the casualties you desire.

6. and to think the Democrats in Congress were concerned if the voted against the Iraq funding
they would be blamed for the problems in Iraq

Maybe they will see the light now, and stand for what is right, because you will be villified either way by them

It's so easy for GOP politicians to be tough and macho with other people's sacrifices.

14. Why is it always a dick-waving contest to these idiots?
"Mine is bigger than yours" is hardly a basis for creating foreign policy.

And especially where Iraq is concerned. "Winning" has absolutely no definition.

15. Because they are bullies, that's their strategy, so anything that undercuts their bluff is bad.
Edited on Wed May-30-07 08:15 AM by bemildred
That is the real argument, that people that oppose the war are making their bluff fail. And it is a very dumb argument, once you make it clear. If you are bluffing, you should not be starting a war.

I was wondering if any of the posts here would address the overt sexism in his comments.

18. Accidently saw DeMint speak this morning at Tommy's Ham House in Greenville, SC.
I inadvertently wandered into a DeMint love-fest when I showed up at Tommy's Country Ham House for breakfast this morning. DeMint was speaking to a large crowd in one half of the restaurant. I went to the other half and sat down with my back to DeMint and his rooters.

Tommy, the restaurant owner, is a big Democrat. He came and sat at my table and we railed against Bu$h and Cheney as DeMint, from the lectern, blamed everything on the "Democrat Party" (sic). Tommy introduced me to another Democrat who, like Tommy and me, was sitting with his back to DeMint.

BTW: If I have time, I'll try to post a thread on DeMint's Greenville meeting later today. Dr. DemoTex said that she went to high school with DeMint. Dr. D. said he was a real "pretty boy" back then.

DeMint = DimWit

24. Thank God I'm not in SC anymore...
What a nut job. I guess he's only talking about the casualties of the past 5 months...since the Democrats took over control of Congress. What about all those casualties from 2003 up to December 2006...Jerk, let him take my place on the next rotation into Afghanistan or Iraq....

26. Why is it the chickenhaws are the loudest?
Maybe those who never served need to yell the loudest in order
to conceal the fact that they, themselves, never did what they
are so fanatically endorsing, as long as others and the children
of others do it.
