Conyers endorses national effort to impeach Bush, Cheney
Source: AP

DETROIT -- U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., said Tuesday he supports a national effort calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, but stopped short of pledging to take action to back it.

"I've been supportive of that movement," said Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee that would lead impeachment hearings. "I encourage that nationwide."

But Conyers, who left a Detroit church before a town-hall meeting attended by a standing-room-only crowd of about 250 people, remained noncommittal about lending his official backing for impeachment proceedings. Conyers had also convened a separate town-hall meeting in Detroit on Tuesday evening to discuss high gas prices.

"The goal is whether to impeach or follow up on the defects and disabilities of an administration" that has shut out Congress, he said.

19. What? Masturbatory self-importance fantasies?
You're right. Kucinich has much bigger ones than Conyers. In fact Kucinich's are so big that Conyers' don't appear to exist at all.

18. Oh hell, the public is screaming for impeachment. Whole communities
have passed resolutions stating that those two are unfit to run this country.

'stopped short' is the name of the game for democrats these days.

10. Well any steps in the right direction are better than none
Thank you Representative Conyers....there is this other Democratic Leader who is working on this very thing, his name is Dennis Kucinich. He has this Bill, H.R.333. Perhaps you may have heard of it... All sarcasm aside, thanks for this and everything else. WE THE PEOPLE are begging for a bit more but we will take what little we get, what real choice do we have here.

11. Gosh -- Orwellian and Pythonesque
This article itself is quite funny/absurd in the pains it takes to avoid actually saying that it was an enormous impeachment event (that Conyers was sheepishly avoiding).

It does however make very clear that it fulfilled its Pravda-lite duty to contact the RNC for talking points.

Every word out of Conyers's mouth was the Orwellian part -- including "and" and "the."

13. Lame response John, just damned lame, John. Step up, you promised.
I'll always remember you John, for the moment in Michael Moore's movie when you said something along the lines of "Son, you have to understand, we don't read any bill we sign.... we don't have time... you don't understand.... "

Conyers, you've sold out and in the process you have attempted to sell us, we the people, out. Not this time.
