Democrats Seek to Overturn Pay Ruling
Source: NY Daily News

Congressional Democrats said Wednesday they would try to reverse a Supreme Court decision that limits the time that workers have to sue their employers for pay discrimination.

"All Americans deserve equal pay for equal work, and it is my hope that Congress can remove the technical hurdles that will prevent individuals from receiving what is rightfully theirs," said Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., a Democratic presidential candidate.

The Supreme Court voted 5-4 on Tuesday to throw out a Goodyear employee's complaint that she earned thousands of dollars less than her male counterparts.

Under the court's decision, an employee must sue within a 180-day deadline of a decision involving pay if the employee think it involves their race, sex, religion or national origin.

1. This new SCOTUS is starting to really pi$$ me off
What was that about Alito and Roberts being closet "moderates"? Haven't seen any evidence of that yet.

Well let's elect Dem Presidents and hopefully one of the 5 will retire and these aholes will be stuck on the short end of 5-4 for the next 30 years!

9. When a Democrat gets in and we have 60 senators, just expand the number of court seats.
FDR had the right idea - wield power while you have it, for it slips away quickly. Progressives may have an opportunity soon to realign the social constract in this country.

10. Your grandchildren's children will be voting for President and they will still be there.
Don't worry though Democrats have "dry powder"...

2. Constitutional democracy at work.
If the Supreme Court is going to say "A rule is a rule," then Congress has the constitutional authority to change that rule. But OTOH, * will surely veto it. But that's okay. Let him have a record of vetoing legislation that HELPS people and let the republicans try to defend that record in November, 2008.

8. I hope all those Dems who are so angry about the supplimental troop
spending vote will read this post and keep in mind that there are other important issues that will be effected if they leave the party or won't work for Dems in other campaigns or vote for any one who voted for the war. There are a lot more issues that are important to us all than the
war vote...like the future nominees for the Supreme Court. Dems must win.

6. Thom Hartmann suggested on his show that...
...since Ms. Ledbetter is collecting a pension based on her pay, she is STILL being discriminated against. I think he's right. But then I'm not an attorney, don't play one on TV or the internet, and besides, the Supremes obviously don't give a sh*t...

:hi:

7. Regarding that decision, who has asked a co-worker about his/her salary?
Being polite (most of the time) (all right, once in a while), I'd have never asked another employee about his/her salary and would never have found a pattern of discrimination within 180 days. The time limit really needs to be tossed.

11. Simply asking a co-worker what their salary is can get you fired...
at least at every job I ever worked at. Then again, if you hang out with them AFTER work, you usually find out somehow.
