Lieberman talks to troops in Baghdad
Source: McClatchy Newspapers

By Leila Fadel
McClatchy Newspapers

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Spc. David Williams, 22, of Boston, Mass., had two note cards in his pocket Wednesday afternoon as he waited for Sen. Joseph Lieberman. Williams serves in the 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, N.C., the first of the five "surge" brigades to arrive in Iraq, and he was chosen to join the Independent from Connecticut for lunch at a U.S. field base in Baghdad.

The night before, 30 other soldiers crowded around him with questions for the senator.

He wrote them all down. At the top of his note card was the question he got from nearly every one of his fellow soldiers:

"When are we going to get out of here?"

2. America haters
Imagine...the gall!
Joementum shows up to give them the chance to lavish praise upon him and the war and what do these America hating ingrates do???

They have the nerve to want to know when they'll get of Iraq.

How dare they!!!

Don't they realize that if they leave Iraq Civil War will break out???!!!
Haven't they been listening to Dick Morris???
They need to be over there as targets for Al Qaeda, so Al Qaeda doesn't come to America and kill us here.

Whiners! They obviously have no idea. not an inkling of anything about Iraq and the stakes that are involved.

on note: In case you didn't guess, and for some people this has been a problem lately :sarcasm:

4. Do they know it's Joe who's keeping them there?
If not for him threatening to give the senate to the GOP, the dems might have cut the funds and the war.

Wonder if they know that.....

5. hmmm
Since he's so close, can we trade Joe to Israel for some matzoh ball soup, and some garnishments to be named later?

6. "We don't feel like we're making any progress," it said.
"It's like everything else in this war," Adams said, referring to Baghdad. "It hasn't changed."

Then Lieberman walked in, wearing a pair of sunglasses newly purchased from an Iraqi market that the military had taken him to in southeast Baghdad. He'd been equipped with a helmet and flak vest when he toured the market, which he described as bustling.

Has anyone noticed the increasing disconnect between the troops in the field and the politicians that keep them at war? This is a good sign!

12. Is that picture of lieberman photo-shopped?
Edited on Thu May-31-07 03:13 AM by ribrepin
That's the funniest thing I've ever seen. I can't decide if he thinks he's patton or Rocky the flying squirrel.

The guy behind him with sunglasses looks like he can barely keep from doubling over with laughter. It's the look you give your grandfather when he's trying to dress cool.

14. It's the helmet & flack vest segment in the...
"stupidest guy on the face of the earth" contest.

Former winner Doug Feith will soon be passing the tiara.

15. I know why Lieberman was never in the military
He couldn't have worn the uniform.

Are the soldiers trying to embarrass him? My God, that helmet looks like something from the Hogan's Heroes set. That guy behind him has a real snarky look on his face.

13. That Wehrmacht looking helmet seems to fit Lieberman's fascist head pretty well
Holy Joe said that things were progressing well, so why did he wear a helmet and body armor when he went shopping?

10. Perhaps the slimy fucktard should stop talking to the troops...
...and start listening to them instead?

You know, I make no bones about the fact that I detest George W. Bush, but I loathe Joe Lieberman to the core of my being.

18. On the contrary: Joe, please stay there
Or at least until you get the idea that we just might have overstayed our
welcome.

In case thousands of Iraqis throw kisses and flowers your way, that past
statement is "inoperative," but I won't be holding my breath.
