Molson workers stage walkout; Beer supplies unlikely to be affected by strike, company says
The Edmonton Journal
EDMONTON

EDMONTON -- Molson brewery staff walked off the job Wednesday to protest a new contract offer that would pay lower wages to workers hired in the future.

No new contract talks are scheduled. The company says beer supplies likely won't be affected.

The strike began at 12:01 a.m. after the 102 hourly workers rejected a new three-year contract that would give them annual raises of 60 cents an hour, but would offer new staff $22 an hour. Molson Coors said current workers are paid $29 to $34 an hour.

Under the contract, three per cent of a new worker's pay would go toward pension contributions, and those dollars would be matched by the company. Current workers have all their pension costs paid by the company.

No link yet.

The $ figures are in Canadian $ per hour. Molson merged with Coors (yes the Republican family) awhile back. Coors had labor problems off and on through it's histroy.

1. Beer? You call that watery urine "beer"?
:puke:

For my beer: If I can see through it, I don't drink it.

8. It's not Coors, it's Molson Canadian.
By Canadian standards, it's still watery urine, but it sure ain't Coors... :puke:

2. Luckily there are many better brands available today anyway
I remember the days of my youth when they would stage strikes at Molson, Labatts and O'Keefe at the height of summer and the only shit we could find was Miller, Bud, Coors and Ranier. Those days were bad.

9. It's Molson.
Coors owns Molson now; they haven't changed the beer, but they're trying to import their 19th century labour practices. :grr:

3. In my family Coors was always referred to as:
Edited on Thu May-31-07 05:17 PM by mohinoaklawnillinois
Rocky Mountain Goat Piss.

My father was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO during 1942/1943 and he refused to drink Coors beer because it was non-union.

In fact in 1973, one of my cousin's that lived in Oklahoma, brought a case up with him when he was visiting us and my father made him pour the whole case down the sewer in front of our house. He wouldn't allow it in the house.

I won't allow it in my house either. I'm not going to support that right wing bunch of assholes...

4. When I lived in Denver
The only time I saw people drinking Coors was at the brewery when they were giving away unlimited free samples.

In town everyone drank something else.

12. Makes me wonder
How the Coors family became so wealthy?

6. And they are still BAD
Macro Breweries SUCK.

Micro is the way to go.

I only drink micro brews now and only select ones (IMO), all of that mass-produced beer really tastes like bull piss.

11. Not to worry.
The strike's against Molson in Canada, not Coors in the US (Coors bought Molson Breweries a while back). You lucky Yanks can still get as much of that goat piss you quaintly call "beer" as you can stomach. :puke:

Having completed the obligatory Canadian beer snobbery, let me add that Molson isn't all that great, either...
