Man Claims to Have Loch Ness Video
Source: AP (via Discovery Channel news)

She's as much an emblem, and a tourist draw, as tartan, bagpipes, and shortbread. And now Nessie's back. An amateur scientist has captured what Loch Ness Monster watchers say is among the finest footage ever taken of the elusive mythical creature reputed to swim beneath the waters of Scotland's most mysterious lake.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this jet black thing, about 45-feet long, moving fairly fast in the water," said Gordon Holmes, the 55-year-old a lab technician from Shipley, Yorkshire, who took the video this past Saturday.

...

While many sightings can be attributed to a drop of the local whisky, legends of Scottish monsters date back to one of the founders of the Christian church in Scotland, St. Columba, who wrote of them in about 565 A.D.

Now, personally I don't buy that there's still a Plesiosaur family living in this lake, but it's always seemed there's something odd going on there. The footage is pretty impressive.

7. Just did! Better quality pic. Mystery solved, here:
Betcha one million dollars its a school of fish...probaby babies. I've observed this exact sort of thing on Grand Cayman's 7 mile beach. Millions of tiny fish, swimming in formation, always in the spring.

13. Similar illusion was in Jaws 2 the movie. The scene on the beach...
where Roy Scheider is in the shark lookout tower near beg. of the film. He spots a huge shadow moving in the water beyond the swimmers in the ocean. He panics, runs down to the swimmers, yelling at them to get out of the water, and starts shooting his gun.

It turns out it was a school of fish moving together.

6. There's nothing in the footage to which the size of the moving object can be compared.
It could be an eel of some sort, for all the film shows.

9. Good theory
And I'm really interested for someone to find a cold-water, freshwater eel that big. It would be really cool.

10. Don't know anything about fish...
I'm just saying that it could be something long but far smaller than the fabled Loch Ness monster. Are there any freshwater snakes to be found in that environment?
