Kyl Vows To Block Open Government Bill (Sen. Anonymous)
Source: CBS News

(AP) Advocates of a bill promoting openness in government are fuming that a Republican senator is blocking a vote.

Dozens of journalism and advocacy groups supporting the Open Government Act argue it would speed up the government's response to public requests for information under the federal Freedom of Information law.

Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., says the Justice Department is concerned that it could force them to reveal sensitive information.

In a statement Thursday, Kyl said the agency's "uncharacteristically strong" opposition is reason enough to think twice about the legislation, and he will block a vote until both sides can work out the differences.

1. Tell me about it.
I faxed a request for my FBI records to the FBI in February 2006. Then they sent me back a letter saying that the request had to have an original signature on it. Even though the request form tells you to fax it, and provides the fax number.

Their request for an original signature is postmarked March 10, 2006. I sent it back immediately. Still no response.

3. It could force them to reveal sensitive information that would send Republicans to jail.

4. They smoked Vile Kyl out of his hole.

Kyl revealed his name Thursday, days after the bill's backers launched an e-mail and telephone campaign, urging their supporters to help in "smoking out 'Senator Secrecy.'"

5. Hell, the "uncharacteristically strong" opposition is all the more reason to pass it
If something is truly "sensitive" then the DOJ or whoever doesn't have to release it.

The current DOJ is full of vampires and cockroaches.

7. Those last two paragraphs have got to be a joke.
This "Justice Department"? The legal-political arm of the Executive Branch is enough to override Congress?

I've never understood why the Executive Branch has a group of prosecutors that are allowed to legislate.

8. This sounds exactly like the type of bill that if passed by congress,
is going to be vetoed by that unelected ass-hole occupying the white house. I hope perusing it has some other helpful significance other than wasting time. But then what is American politics anyway…
