BAGHDAD - Three more American soldiers have been killed in action in Iraq, the military said Saturday, after the deadliest month for US forces here in two-and-a-half years.

Two of the soldiers died on May 30, statements said, bringing that month’s death toll to 121, the worst since US marines famously stormed the insurgent city of Fallujah in November 2004.

A third soldier was shot dead in Baghdad on Friday, becoming June’s first casualty, according to US command.

These latest fatalities bring the number of US soldiers who have died in combat and from other causes in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion to 3,482, according to an AFP count based on Pentagon figures.

1. Five Deaths Are Added To U.S. Toll
BAGHDAD, June 1 -- The U.S. military on Friday announced the deaths of five more service members.

The military said three American soldiers had been killed by small-arms fire in Baghdad over the past three days. Another soldier died Thursday at a hospital in Maryland, two weeks after he was seriously wounded by a sniper. A fifth soldier died of wounds suffered in a roadside bombing in Baghdad on Wednesday.

At least 126 American troops were killed in Iraq in May, the third-deadliest month for U.S. forces since the war began in 2003.
