Report: Feds arrest 4 in alleged JFK airport plot
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 11:12 AM by spotbird
Source: WNBC-TV

Arrests have been made. No link yet. May involve former or current employees who were Guyanese AQ sympathizers.

On edit:

They planned to bring explosives into JFK to sabotage the fuel lines, thereby cause a massive explosion. Authorities believe the suspects were serious, but they don’t know how well-developed the plan was. Only one suspect in custody, the other conspirators may be overseas.

On second edit, from NBC:

"Law enforcement officials said the plot may involved a former airport worker, according to NewsChannel4's Jonathan Dienst, Officials said the plot may involve four people plotting to set off explosive devices on airport grounds.

A news conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. "

48. It's time to arrest today.....if this turns out to be another
"dream" by a bunch of guys we'll know it's another fear factor event.....after all the administration needs some positive press! I'm sorry but I don't believe most of this stuff anymore. When they have the proof I'll listen.

Wonder what the Sunday morning news programs will be talking about? Should be talking about the Palast/Conyers meeting and the rogue e-mails, the link of Rove to the Alabama Governor/U.S. attorney story, or all the repukes jumping ship,or immigration or Susan Ralston asking for immunity or more about Tim Griffin... but now with this terrorist event I think those stories will be swept under the rug....again.

Lions, and tigers and bears Oh MY! What color alert are we under or is that obsolete?

18. so does that mean the surge isn't working?
didn't they tell us if we fight them over thre we won't have to fight them here?

The fact is that by attacking a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, has started the ball rolling that will involve us in unending war unless we can get rid of those that led us into this disaster

The problems we have today, require a new way of thinking, and those that caused those problems will not be the ones who solve them. They neither have the capacity or desire to do so

We need a new way of thinking, and that is definitely not provided by the republicans

In fact unless the Democrats do something to stop this madness, the republicans are setting up so we will be in Iraq for years to come

It is pretty bleak the situation we are in, since Congress essentially caved in on the troop funding bill

is a much better outfit then the FBI. I knew something was up because I mailed my daughter a package to Manhattan, she will be living in Juilliard for a month, and UPS had to open all packages being mailed to Manhattan. That occurred on Tuesday.

UPS told us they had to open it and look inside. Everything going to Manhattan had to visually inspected. Hubby asked if the Post Office is doing this too, clerk smiled and said, well not in front of you.

We had no problem with it. However that tipped us off that something was up.

meaning, they didn't have the resources, skills, manpower, etc. to carry out their acts....

But I'm sure the Republican spin bull-shit machine will act like they just prevented WW III...Republicans want all the credit every time a plot gets foiled, yet, they want to bare no blame for 9/11, they want it both ways....

42. New York Times article; was he ready to practice what he preached?
Nothing worse than a bitter ex politician

snip
The plot involved a former airport worker in his 60s, who is a United States citizen of Guyanese descent and lives in New York, and a former member of the Guyanese parliament, who is also an imam.

snip

...the former airport worker had made several trips to Guyana and one trip to Trinidad and Tobago to try to get support for the plot.

The airport worker
sought the support of a Muslim rebel group in Trinidad and Tobago that attacked the parliament there in 1990.

While it does not appear that the four men were close to achieving their goal, law enforcement officials said, their ambition was to detonate fuel tanks ......

45. wonder if they know Bernie Kerik?
Ghouliani's '911' associate/friend, taser profiteer; and, almost "Homeland" Security head

It's just a coincidence Kerik had a consulting job with Guyana in 2006. I'm sure his consulting job was to 'overhaul Guyana's police force' and nothing else, just as they said. He apparently quit recently because of a federal investigation.

Coincidences happen all the time, so loosen the tinfoil (my supply ran out years ago).

A Kerik Guyana Debacle

OK, this is a little embarassing:

The Government of Guyana claimed it was paying for Bernie Kerik's services with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank, but the bank says that's not a kosher use of the funds.

55. FBI Feared JFK Plotters Linked to Top Terrorist
FBI agents feared but never confirmed the three men accused of plotting to attack John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York were linked to one of the most wanted al Qaeda leaders, Adnan Shukrijumah, known to have operated out of Guyana and Trinidad.

Officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com that they heard repeated references to "Adnan" during the extensive wiretaps conducted on the suspects' telephone conversations, including calls to Guyana and Trinidad.

There is a $5 million reward for information on Shukrijumah, who officials consider extremely dangerous because of the years he spent living in the Miami area and his known ties to al Qaeda. Some of the 9/ll hijackers attended a south Florida mosque run by Shukrijumah's now deceased father.

Shukrijumah left the United States just a few months before September 2001.

75. Authorities charge 4 in NYC terror plot
Source: Associated Press

NEW YORK - Federal authorities announced Saturday they had broken up a suspected Muslim terrorist cell planning a "chilling" attack to destroy John F. Kennedy International Airport, kill thousands of people and trigger an economic catastrophe by blowing up a jet fuel artery that runs through populous residential neighborhoods.

Three men, one of them a former member of Guyana's parliament, were arrested and one was being sought in Trinidad as part of a plot that authorities said they had been tracked for more than a year and was foiled in the planning stages.

"The devastation that would be caused had this plot succeeded is just unthinkable," U.S. Attorney Roslynn R. Mauskopf said at a news conference, calling it "one of the most chilling plots imaginable."

In an indictment charging the four men, one of them is quoted as saying the foiled plot would "cause greater destruction than in the Sept. 11 attacks," destroying the airport, killing several thousand people and destroying parts of New York's borough of Queens, where the line runs underground.

76. Balderdash - Hype Hype Hype.
For a couple of years after 9/11, the jet fuel tanks for Dulles International Airport (IAD) loomed just a few yards from busy Route 28, protected by nothing more than a chain link fence.

Now there is a concrete wall between the tanks and the highway. If Jet fuel tanks could be blown up that easily, don't you think that wall would have been in place within a week after a plane departing from that same airport crashed into the Pentagon?

Trinidad holds 2 in alleged terror plot By TONY FRASER, Associated Press Writer
22 minutes ago

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad - Two men allegedly involved in a plot to attack New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport were in custody in Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday and the police commissioner said authorities were scouring the Caribbean country for a third suspect still at large.

Trevor Paul, the top police official in the twin-island nation off Venezuela's coast, identified the arrested suspects as Abdul Kadir, 55, a Guyanese Muslim and former member of the South American nation's Parliament, and Kareem Ibrahim, a 56-year-old from Trinidad.

Both were arrested on U.S. warrants and are suspected of involvement in a plan to blow up a fuel line feeding the airport, Paul told a news conference.

Story Highlights• FBI ties terror plot to South American, Caribbean extremists
• Suspect's wife denies he was part of any plot
• Suspect compares plot with 9/11 in wiretapped remarks, transcript shows
• Former cargo worker arraigned in federal court in New York

Adjust font size:
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Four men have been charged with conspiring to blow up jet fuel supply tanks and pipelines at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Homeland Security sources said there is no current threat at the airport and the attack as planned was "not technically feasible."

The alleged plot did not target airplane flights, officials said.

A wiretap transcript given to CNN by the FBI indicates the plotters targeted the airport because of the popularity its namesake, John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963.

"Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States. To hit John F. Kennedy, wow ... they love JFK -- he's like the man," former JFK airport cargo worker Russell Defreitas allegedly said in a telephone conversation monitored by the FBI. ................

Group tied to extremists in South America, Caribbean
The Justice statement said the men began planning the assault on January 6. A complaint alleges that the plot tapped into an international network of Muslim extremists from the United States, Guyana and Trinidad.

"The defendants had the connections to present their terrorist plot to radical groups in South America and the Caribbean, including senior leadership of Jamaat Al Muslimeen ('JAM'), which was responsible for a deadly coup attempt in Trinidad in 1990," said Mark J. Mershon, assistant director-in-charge of the FBI's New York field office.

"As the complaint alleges, defendants Kadir and Nur were longtime associates of JAM leaders. Defendant Kareem was also preparing to send an emissary overseas to present the plan to extremist networks there when law enforcement stepped in to disrupt it," Mershon said.

An official described the suspects as "al Qaeda wannabes."

87. Authorities Foil Terror Plot Against JFK Airport
Source: CBS

Russell Defreitas, a U.S. citizen native to Guyana and retired airport employee was the mastermind behind a plot to destroy John F. Kennedy International Airport, kill thousands of people and trigger an economic catastrophe by blowing up a jet fuel artery that runs through populous residential neighborhoods, authorities said Saturday.

Defreitas developed his hatred for America a decade ago while working as a cargo handler at JFK airport. While working at the airport, he said he saw military parts being shipped to Israel that he thought would be used to kill Muslims. Last August, he began planning an attack along with three other Muslim men, one of which was an FBI informant. The FBI says they have recorded several conversations between the two during an 18-month investigation. Sources tell CBS 2 that on Friday, Defreitas told the informant he believed the authorities may be on to him, prompting the feds to move in.

Three of the men were arrested and one was being sought in Trinidad on Saturday. In an indictment charging the four men, one of them is quoted as saying the plot would “cause greater destruction than in the Sept. 11 attacks.”

“Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States,” he said on a recording made by a police informant. “They love John F. Kennedy like he’s the man ... It’s like you can kill the man twice.”

And I do think it is a real shame that we are sending so many weapons made in America to be shipped off to other countries to hurt people. Its time to stop making money on weapons trade. Its time to put the whole machine out of business.

92. Fast-forward the story a day or two from now
In the C18 section of most papers:

Russell Defreitas, it turns out, had made idle threats at a local bar a couple years ago. He and his three friends had no real experience in explosives training and would not have been able to drive onto the JFK airport premises with a truck full of explosive gas, since that process is already heavily monitored.

Go Homeland Security!

100. Only a bully never asks "WHY"?
Why weren't the Chinese who tampered with our pet food supply called terrorists?
Why weren't the Texas boys who blew up an apartment building by mixing the very same 'liquids', called terrorists right before the 'BRITISH TERRORISTS' were planning to mix the same chemicals.

I'm so sick of watching Colonialists jump on the 'terrorist' bandwagon whenever they hear angry 'dark skinned' people talk of revenge.

Got news for you Hillary, and Hoyer and Lieberman! (Who now sound like Bush in their joint use of 'terror or '9-11' in every stump speech).

There are now more white, brown, yellow, and GREEN people who hate America's policies and their Right-wing course than you can possibly imagine.

And until Congress finally listens to them explain WHY, and acts to correct the imbalances and injustices responsibe for creating such worldwide hate, they doom our children to a hellish future.

Nope, I have to wait from someone I believe in to believe stuff like this - whether or not it's factual.

They brainwashed me into not believing them. My disbelief started sometime after 44 years ago when John F. Kennedy was murdered by our government with a little help from their friends.

You know - the friends who profit, the friends who are rewarded, the friends who keep getting pardoned, the friends who resurrect each other in key jobs, the friends who become more determined with each year - even going so far as revealing agendas as in the PBAC. The ones the media like and support and live lies for.
